We’ve been reporting on plenty of entertainment properties being delayed and postponed as a result of COVID-19. From season two of The Quintessential Quintuplets to the upcoming Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway film and even the iconic Golgo 13 manga, projects across Japan are being hit with sudden delays due to the effects that the spread of COVID-19 is having on the country. Another huge entertainment industry facing serious troubles to the spread of this disease, though, is the music industry. Plenty of concerts within Japan have already been canceled, postponed, or run without audiences. For major musicians, though, previously planned global tours are suddenly being pushed to 2021 or canceled entirely. We already reported on iconic Japanese rock band FLOW delaying their North American tour to 2021. Now, another Japanese rock band with heavy ties to the anime industry is shaking up their tour plans, as Radwimps has announced that their world tour is now cancelled.
With previous plans to hit concert venues across North America, Canada, Mexico, Europe, and Asia, Radwimps are now canceling these tour dates entirely due to COVID-19. Anyone who has already purchased tickets for a canceled tour date, however, will receive a full refund. The list of canceled tour dates and venues includes:
- Los Angeles (The Wiltern): July 15
- Dallas (Canton Hall): July 18
- Toronto (The Phoenix): July 20
- New York (Sony Hall): July 22
- Mexico City (Blackberry Theater): July 25
Radwimps is easily recognized by anime fans for their work alongside iconic anime film director Makoto Shinkai. The rock band provided the full soundtrack for his 2016 global box office hit your name, even going so far as to produce an English language version of the entire soundtrack for the global version of the film. Their soundtrack for the film went on to be the first Radwimps album to ever top the Oricon weekly album charts, staying there for two weeks. The rock band went on to produce the soundtrack for Shinkai’s recent follow-up film, Weathering With You.
