It’s a question as old as time itself; what do Pokémon taste like? Sure, the culinary world of Pokémon games includes baked treats like Poffins and the compact yet adorable Pokéblocks, not to mention the countless Rare Candies lining each trainers pocket. Those are all meant to be eaten by the pocket monsters themselves, though. What’s a hungry meat-loving trainer to do in the world of Pokémon? Thanks to the upcoming Halloween themed menu at the Pokémon Cafe in Tokyo, we’ll be able to find out just how delicious our favorite Pokémon are.
Back on March 14, 2018, the Pokémon cafe opened up in Tokyo for visitors all over to come and experience a trendy meal based on their favorite Nintendo creature-collecting franchise. The establishment served a variety of adorable dishes, from crispy chicken sandwiches with Umbreon shaped buns to delicious golden-brown pancakes stamped with the adorable face of Japan’s favorite rat, Pikachu. The cafe was a huge success and continues to bring in countless local fans and tourists daily with their adorable atmosphere and impressive menu selection.
Now, with Halloween just around the corner (give or take a few corners), the Pokémon Cafe in Tokyo is gearing up to revamp their menu with a variety of spooky Holiday exclusive selections. Between September 7 and October 31, pocket monster fans with an appetite for Halloween treats can head on over to the cafe to experience three new limited-edition food items.
The first item on the menu is the Halloween Pikachu Plate, which goes for 1,706 yen (about 16 US dollars). This meal is a slight redressing of their regular Pikachu Plate, re-designed and re-plated with some extra Halloween flair. It’s got adorable omelet rice in the shape of Pikachu’s head on it, and the Pika-omelette is even wearing a cute little purple witch hat. There’s a hefty selection of greens and pumpkin salad served alongside the omelet rice, and there’s even a nice little helping of spaghetti to go with it. Adorable star-shaped tater tot fries and a crisp, juicy hamburger round out this hefty Halloween offering. It’s all served on an adorable Halloween-orange plate in the shape of Pikachu’s face, and if you pay an additional 1,188 yen (about 17 US dollars) you can even take that plate home with you!
Next up is the slightly healthier Ilex Forest Pesto Pasta, which costs also costs 1,706 yen or 16 US dollars. This dish is full of all sorts of greens, and nestled in the middle of all of it is the adorable face of one of the most iconic green Pokémon, Celebi. Its face is gently placed on top of a bed of savory pesto bow-tie farfalle, mixed with peas and small pieces of carrot. Surrounding the Celebi pasta bowl is a luscious bed of hearty green salad and cabbage. The salad is decorated by a couple of cute pumpkin-shaped carrot slices, but if you look carefully you’ll notice that the third pumpkin slice is actually in the shape of…Pikachu! This dang lightning rat is everywhere.
Finally, for fans looking to eat something simple and savory, there’s the Zorua’s Halloween Roast Beef Burger. This one is, like the others, priced at 1,706 yen or 16 US dollars. This meal comes with a succulent meat sandwich topped with lettuce, tomato and a hint of mayonnaise. The bottom bun is a unique charcoal black, and the top of the bun is in the shape of Zoruas face! It looks a little upset that you’re about to eat it. Included with the meal to complement your delicious burger is a bowl of minestrone, as well as a few waffle fries. The fries are decorated with a pumpkin-shaped carrot slice and…another Pikachu face carrot! Let someone else have the spotlight for once, sheesh.
On top of delicious Halloween themed meals, the Pokémon Cafe in Tokyo is also offering exclusive free collectibles when you go there! Any drink order you make at the cafe comes with one of six random drink coasters. These are possible designs you can get:
- Pikachu and Pichu
- Espeon
- Umbreon
- Scizor
- Tyranitar
- A mysterious sixth design
Finally, any customers who come to the cafe during the special Halloween promotional period will get to go home with a free Halloween-themed lunch mat. The mat depicts a bunch of Ghost-type Pokémon like Mimikyu and Shedinja hanging out with a host of other pocket monsters donning adorable Halloween costumes. There’s Bulbasaur, Charmander, Lucario and…yes, Pikachu.
If you’re in the Tokyo area or you’re planning a trip to Japan, make sure to stop by the Pokémon Cafe in Tokyo between September 7 and October 31 to take part in the Halloween festivities.
