“Don’t worry, spring will be a light season,” they said after a solid winter. “You’ll totally be able to watch fewer shows in the spring and focus on your book,” they said. There I was, all set to relax a little with my seasonal viewing for April. I felt secure in the handful of premieres I had chosen for the next three months… and then came Uma Musume, with that new net anime series they had promised a couple of months back to upset the entire balance! The life of an otaku knows no peace, it seems.
As you may have guessed, Uma Musume Pretty Derby: Road to the Top (completely separate from the upcoming third television season) has premiered on the official YouTube channel, complete with subtitles in English, Chinese, and Korean. In other words, they really want you to watch this series (if you could be so kind). In this series, the story focuses on T.M. Opera O, Admire Vega, Narita Top Road, and others from the franchise as they continue their quest to become the best horse girl there is.
There’s no word yet on when fans will see the third season, but we know it is slated for later this year.
If you had told me in 2018 we’d still be talking about this ridiculous yet supremely adorable franchise five years later, I might not have believed you. Although to be fair, I’ve been watching anime for a very long time now, and if I were to create a list of weird things I’ve seen, horse girls in flashy costumes who race for the chance to give idol performances wouldn’t even crack the top five.
That said, Uma Musume changed a lot of minds during its first two seasons since they were filled with an almost odd level of heart and passion despite the interesting premise and the vaguely hand-wavey way they explained the existence of horse girls, to begin with in the introduction episode of the first season.
If you haven’t watched Uma Musume yet, for whatever reason, you might not know it, but you’ve done yourself a disservice. Yes, it’s a kind of idol series but also a gritty sports anime, where having the determination to push yourself past your limits to achieve your goals is its theme. It’s worth checking out the first story arc and seeing if it doesn’t capture your imagination if that sounds interesting.
Don’t forget! We have many Uma Musume products in stock at the J-List store for all your horse girl needs!
