I’ve made absolutely no secret on the J-List Blog of how much I love the death metal singing red panda Retsuko in Netflix’s series Aggretsuko. Ever since we received season three in 2020, I’ve been dying to have more of this series pumped straight into my eye holes. Netflix has heard the pleas of fans around the world and delivered a trailer for the previously announced season four, which will rock your socks off!
In the two-minute trailer, we get a strong peek into what’s coming our way on December 16th. It seems that a new director has been hired who is making massive changes to the company, including transferring the misogynistic manager and laying off a bunch of others. Meanwhile, Haida is still secretly pining over Retsuko without ever doing anything about it. Will this be the season where he finally confesses his feelings to his co-worker?
As far as has been reported, the series will have the same cast and crew as the first three seasons.
Now, as excited as I am about seeing the fourth season of Aggretsuko this December, did anyone else notice something missing from that promotional video? I’ll give you a hint, it has to do with the music. That’s right, only in the very last couple of seconds during that promotional video did Retsuko let loose with any death metal karaoke and I feel that there will be even fewer scenes of this than there were in previous sequel seasons.
Aggretsuko is one of those series that, while still fantastic to watch, has forgotten what brought it to the dance in the first place. While the workplace drama serves as a functional storytelling mechanism, we need to see more death metal karaoke since that’s what made the series so fun to begin with.
I’m hoping that a second promotional video will be released within the next month which gives us hope of seeing what we all know we want, but the chances are better that we’re just going to bring up the volatile Netflix on December 16th and hope for the best.
