Neon Genesis Evangelion on Netflix is Missing Something Vital

When Netflix announced they’d be bringing 90’s anime cult classic Neon Genesis Evangelion to their lineup back in March of this year, fans of the series rejoiced. Several years after the series end, Neon Genesis Evangelion has been a fan favorite, appearing in collaboration with mobile games, clothes, shoes, and even having several concerts and symphonies celebrating its music.

But now that the series has dropped, people are noticing that Netflix’s version leaves out a crucial element of the series: the outro. Fly Me To The Moon, the famed Frank Sinatra single has been the outro for all 26 episodes of the anime and is covered in various musical styles throughout the series run. However, in the Netflix version, these outros are replaced by character Rei’s theme. It’s also been observed that scenes that would have had a score of Fly Me To The Moon have also been removed.

Naturally, fans across the internet are making their feelings known between the lack of an outro and the quality of Netflix’s new dub:

Netflix has not yet released a comment on why the outro isn’t available. Netflix has also released Evangelion: Death and The End of Evangelion alongside the original anime, though any cuts to the musical score or outros have not been observed. Hopefully, Netflix will listen to the feedback from viewers and keep it in mind when bringing more anime to the streaming service in the future. Until then, you can listen to the outro versions of Fly Me To The Moon below, and check out the Neon Genesis Evangelion products available on J-List.

Outside of this, it’s nice to see viewers new and old alike being able to enjoy a classic anime. I have to say the only thing I’m not looking forward to with the reemergence of Neon Genesis Evangelion is the reemergence of all those “Get in the robot, Shinji.” memes.
