I make no secret about it, in my house we stan Katarina Claes.
At the “Spring Katarina Festival: Female Katarina Fan Gathering & Male Katarina Fan Gathering” event (which really could’ve been shortened to just “fan gathering event”) that occurred this past Sunday, the staff behind My Next Life as a Villainess revealed that the upcoming movie will premiere in 2023. To celebrate the announcement, two brand new key visuals (seen below) were posted to the internet.
Unfortunately, no further details, such as a story synopsis or staff members, were released at the time of the announcement. Stay tuned to the J-List Blog for updates as they are revealed!
Now that we’ve gotten the news bit of this article out of the way, let’s just talk about My Next Life as a Villainess for a while. While many of you already know the joys and charms of this series, some of you remain hesitant to check it out, which is quite sad. So, if you’ll indulge me, I’d like to spend a couple of hundred words convincing you to give this series a try.
In this isekai series, the main character is an average female otaku who gets transported into the body of a young girl named Katarina. The issue is that Katarina is the villainess character in an otome game and is destined to either be killed or exiled by someone from the game. In order to keep this from happening, Katarina strives to make sure that she can avoid one of the many bad endings that await her in the future.
Animated by moe factory Silver Link, this series filled me with such joy. While I’m not always the biggest fan of harem comedies, My Next Life as a Villainess took a surprisingly modern take on the concept by creating a bisexual-friendly atmosphere. While it’s never explicitly stated that Katarina is bisexual herself, the fact that she has multiple female suitors along with male harem members was more than enough to win me over.
While the second season wasn’t quite as great as the first, it still retained enough of its initial shine to keep me entertained and wanting to see the movie when it premieres next year.
