For fans of My Hero Academia, one of the best parts of the long-running superhero anime series has been the incredible opening and ending songs. We’ve gotten energetic and blood-pumping opening themes performed by bands like Lenny code fiction and UVERworld, on top of touching and unforgettable ending songs by iconic Japanese artists like LiSA and Little Glee Monster.
With season four on the horizon, it was confirmed on the official website for the TV anime that brought Kohei Horikoshi’s superhero shonen action manga My Hero Academia to life that the artists for the fourth season’s theme songs will be rock band BLUE ENCOUNT and solo artist Sayuri.
The OP song for season four of My Hero Academia, titled “Polaris”, will be performed by the four-man rock band BLUE ENCOUNT. You might have heard them before, doing theme songs for major anime like Gintama, Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, and BANANA FISH. The band made their major debut back in September 2014 with the label Ki/oon Music, and has released ten singles and three full albums since then.
When asked to comment about their theme song for My Hero Academia, the band said the following:
“‘I want to protect my loved ones’ smile even if my life gets worn down.’ I think that people can become someone’s hero at the moment when this feeling sprouts. We made a support song for such heroes. We think it has become the frailest and warmest song in the band’s history. As the new anime story begins, we hope we will burn our heart along with you.”
The ED song for season four, titled “Koukai no Uta” (The Song of The Voyage), will be performed by 23-year-old singer-songwriter Sayuri. At just 15 years old, she won the Grand Prix prize at The 5th Music Revolution JAPAN FINALE. Winning that award helped her make her professional singer debut from Ariola Japan, releasing her first major single Mikazuki in August 2015. That song ended up being used as the ED theme for the TV anime Rampo Kitan: Game of Laplace. In the years following, she’s been the theme song performer for other anime such as Erased, Scum’s Wish, Fate/Extra Last Encore, and Golden Kamuy.
She provided the following words about being chosen to perform the ED song for My Hero Academia:
“For me, HeroAca is a talisman-like series that can change a small thought inside me into a solid power. I made ‘Koukai no Uta” while thinking that I wanted to sing such a song. I hope it has become an ED theme that the audience can enjoy with the story that moves forward.”
My Hero Academia, season 4, premiers on October 12th, 2019.

Boku no Hero Academia synopsis:
One day, a four-year-old boy came to a sudden realization: the world is not fair. Eighty percent of the world’s population wield special abilities, known as “quirks,” which have given many the power to make their childhood dreams of becoming a superhero a reality. Unfortunately, Izuku Midoriya was one of the few born without a quirk, suffering from discrimination because of it. Yet, he refuses to give up on his dream of becoming a hero; determined to do the impossible, Izuku sets his sights on the elite hero training academy, UA High.
However, everything changes after a chance meeting with the number one hero and Izuku’s idol, All Might. Discovering that his dream is not a dead end, the powerless boy undergoes special training, working harder than ever before. Eventually, this leads to him inheriting All Might’s power, and with his newfound abilities, gets into his school of choice, beginning his grueling journey to become the successor of the best hero on the planet.
