One of the most iconic entries in the galaxy-spanning world of Mobile Suit Gundam is the 1988 film Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack. One of the characters in that film is the young son of the iconic Federation ship captain Bright Noa. That son, Hathaway Noa, would later become the adult protagonist of a book trilogy written by legendary Mobile Suit Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino that serves as a direct sequel to Char’s Counterattack. Now, three decades after the release of Char’s Counterattack and the Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash book series, a new film adaptation is on its way to deliver the gripping story of Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway like it’s never been seen before.

A recent Gundam Livestream event shared a bevy of new details for the Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway film, including a brand new trailer that shows off the exciting theme song for the film. Rock band [ALEXANDROS], who performed the theme song for the live-action Bleach film, is set to perform the theme song for the latest entry in the Gundam universe.

A new poster for Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway reveals that the film is set to debut in Japan on July 23rd. The poster also reveals the tagline for the film, “Char’s ideals and Amuro’s passion …. the heir of their wills […] 32 years after Char’s Counterattack.”
Shukou Murase, known for working on anime like Ergo Proxy, Gangsta., Witch Hunter Robin, and Genocidal Organ, is directing Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway. Yasayuki Mutou, previously a writer on Basilisk, Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn RE:0096, and Deadman Wonderland, will be writing the scripts. Pablo Uchida, Naoyuki Onda, and Shigeki Kuhara are adapting the original character designs by Haruhiko Mikimoto for animation. Hajime Katoki, Kimitoshi Yamane, Seiichi Nakatani, and Nobuhiko Genba are adapting Moriki’s mechanical designs for animation. Finally, prolific composer Hiroyuki Sawano will be composing music for the film. He is known for his work on Attack on Titan as well as other Mobile Suit Gundam projects like Mobile Suit Gundam Narrative and Mobile Suit Gundam UC.
