The cast and staff of Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro announced a second season for the anime at a live event on October 23rd at the Kannai Hall in Yokohama, Japan.
Before the big reveal, the main cast of Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro (Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san) assembled in Yokohama for a live performance, reprising their roles from the anime. The voice actors poorly drew the other characters on Senpai’s easel in the art club room in front of live audiences.
After the funny sketch, the actors and staff celebrated the green light approval to produce a second season. Manga creator Nanashi showed the voice actors how to ably draw the Miss Nagatoro characters for the joyful announcement.
The participation of the voice actors for Senpai, Nagatoro, Gamo-chan, Yoshi, and Sakura (Daiki Yamashita, Sumire Uesaka, Mikako Komatsu, Aina Suzuki, and Shiori Izawa) gives hope that the core voice talent will be coming back for the second season. The announcement art by character designer Misaki Suzuki hints that the studio and production direction will also remain the same. Other details, like the broadcast schedule, musical artists, and new or returning cast, will be forthcoming.
The first season of Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro aired in the spring of 2021. It currently streams on Crunchyroll and VRV in North America. The manga by Nanashi is ongoing, and interested readers can find English language volumes through Kodansha USA.
For those who want to catch up before the second season starts, the blurb for the Miss Nagatoro story comes from the first manga volume:
Nagatoro is a freshman in high school who loves teasing and torturing her older male classmate. What is her motivation and why does Senpai put up with her? Does Nagatoro just want to create misery for Senpai? Or maybe she secretly likes him?
You can find J-List’s review of individual Nagatoro-san episodes here. And Senpai Peter Payne offered thoughts on the controversial teasing aspects of Nagatoro’s relationship with Senpai here.
