You’ll notice that I didn’t say which visual novel.
In Japan, they see Christmas more as a couple’s holiday more than anything else, with Christmas Eve being viewed as one of the most romantic nights of the year. So what better time than that very night to launch a School Days–themed horror attraction? You read that correctly; one of the most infamous visual novels (which was adapted into the anime which birthed the “Nice Boat” meme) is being turned into a real-life horror experience.
For those who aren’t aware of just how scary this is, let’s recall why this particular title is so infamous. In the visual novel, the star of the story is a playboy named Makoto Ito. Condensing his tale down to the simplest of ways; basically, Makoto gets involved with multiple girls, treats them like disposable objects that were made entirely for his pleasure, and then (in the anime at least) gets the ultimate bad ending… and this company in Japan wants to turn that scenario into a reality that you actually pay money to experience. Which I mean, if that’s your bag, then more power to you.
The horror experience is titled Makoto the Real and starts with Makoto and Kotonoha (who are voiced by the same anime voice actors) going shopping together for matching rings. Sounds fine so far. From there, however, the story is promised to get much darker with the statement of “At the end, ‘she’ will invade the ambulance!” Who ‘she’ is exactly isn’t clear, but I’ve seen enough twisted anime to know that I’m going to want to stay far away from this experience.
