P.A. Works is continuing its “workplace” series of anime. This new entry, titled Komada: A Whisky Family (Komada Jouryuusho e Youkoso / Welcome to Komada Distillery), follows a girl as she works to restore her family distillery. While we would all like a season dedicated to hooch, this is only a movie. Given the talent attached to it, no whiskey will be needed to enjoy it. You will know when the film premieres on November 10th, 2023.
GAGA has maintained a home page to promote Komada: A Whisky Family and an official Twitter page. Fans and potential viewers can find behind-the-scenes information and key visuals there. They can also find a lottery campaign for Komada-branded Japanese whiskey.
Japanese Whiskey Runs in the Family
Komada: A Whisky Family follows Rui Komada as she struggles with tragedy. Her family’s cherished KOMA whiskey distillery caught fire, adding to her financial difficulties. Her father and grandfather, who first founded KOMA, had passed away, leaving her with the burden of preserving her family’s history and legacy.
Kotaro Takahashi, a news site reporter, and Tomoko Kawabata and Hiroshi Yasumoto work with Rui as she attempts to revive the original KOMA whiskey recipe and restore her family’s happiness.
The Voices of Komada
Saori Hayami will be voicing Rui Komada. Some of her performances include Himawari Uzumaki in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Yamato in One Piece, and Ruby Rose in RWBY: Ice Queendom.
You may have heard Kensho Ono, the voice of Kotaro Takahashi, in his roles as Giorno Giovanna in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Yuya Sakaki in Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V, and Shikadai Nara in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.
Maaya Uchida, who will be giving voice to Tomoko Kawabata, has also voiced Rikka Takanashi in Love, Chuunibyou & Other Delusions, Catarina Claes in My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!, and Angel Devil in Chainsaw Man.
Besides voicing Hiroshi Yasumoto, Yoshimasa Hosoya has also played Fumikage Tokoyami in My Hero Academia, Nicholas D. Wolfwood in Trigun Stampede, and Toru Kirishima in The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting.
P.A. Works’s “Workplace” Series
As previously stated, Komada: A Whisky Family is the newest entry in the “workplace” series by P.A. Works. Fans of the studio and quality anime will recognize other workplace titles, like The Aquatope on White Sand, where two girls run an aquarium, and Hanasaku Iroha, featuring a similar tale of a girl working to maintain her family’s heritage in a Taisho period hot spring inn. Other workplace titles include Sakura Quest, where an unemployed woman becomes the new “queen” of Manoyama village and a tourism board member, and the renowned SHIROBAKO, an anime about making anime.
P.A. Works also focuses on fun Japanese cultural topics, which we see in Ya Boy Kongming!, where the reincarnated Zhuge Kongming is reborn to use battle tactics to take the record industry by storm, and Uma Musume Pretty Derby, giving a new twist to horse racing in which the horses are all cute horse girls. Otaku culture receives extra love from Akiba Maid War, which embraces Japan’s love of café maids and hardboiled yakuza gang warfare, and Kuromukuro, which similarly mashes up classic otaku tropes we all know and love – the Sengoku era, samurai, and giant mechs.
For those who need a cute girl who works hard, the J-List shop can help. The Platelet POP UP PARADE Figure from the Cells at Work! section is now available.
