Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba may have just finished it’s run in Weekly Shonen Jump this month, but there are still plenty of promising stories in the weekly manga magazine that are just on the precipice of becoming the next big thing. One such series is Jujutsu Kaisen, the grotesque action-adventure from Gege Akutami that debuted back in March of 2018. Since then, Shueisha has published 10 volumes of the promising series in Japan. Now, the success of the series has culminated in a promising new anime adaptation that is set to premiere this October.
The anime adaptation of Jujutsu Kaisen is being animated by legendary studio MAPPA, recently responsible for hits like Dorohedoro, Banana Fish, Yuri!!! on Ice, and Zombieland Saga. Sunghoo Park, director of the anime The God of High School, will be directing this upcoming manga adaptation. Scriptwriting and supervision is being handled by Hiroshi Seko, who previously worked on Attack on Titan: Lost Girls, Banana Fish, and Vinland Saga. Tadashi Hiramatsu, the artist previously responsible for character design work in His and Her Circumstances, Yuri!!! on Ice, and Parasyte -the maxim-, will be designing the characters for this anime. Music composition is being handled by Hiroaki Tsutsumi, Yoshimasa Terui, and Arisa Okehazama.
The currently confirmed voice cast for Jujutsu Kaisen includes:
- Junya Enoki as Yūji Itadori
- Yūma Uchida as Megumi Fushiguro
- Asami Seto as Nobara Kugisaki
- Yūichi Nakamura as Satoru Gojō
- Junichi Suwabe as Sukuna Ryomen
Viz Media initially published the first three chapters of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga in English alongside the Japanese releases of each chapter as part of the Shonen Jump led Jump Start initiative. Currently, Shonen Jump publishes the series in English digitally while Viz Media published the manga in print volumes, with the third volume having released on April 7.
Shueisha also published the Jujutsu Kaisen manga digitally on its MANGA Plus app, and describes the series as follows:
