Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night (Yoru no Kurage wa Oyogenai) may be a confusing title, but the story is all too familiar. Talented girls who have reached a tipping point in their careers unite to find inspiration to carry on. We’ll see how these girls do when this anime series premieres sometime in April 2024. Let’s all enjoy the new trailer until then.
Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night is an original anime series created by JELEE and produced by Doga Kobo.
Our wayward creators are as follows:
- Mahiru Kozuki / Yoru Mitsuki — Miku Ito (Frenika from Sword Art Online: Alicization). An illustrator who seeks inspiration to continue drawing.
- Kano Yamanouchi / Nonoka Tachibana — Rie Takahashi (Pepper from Urusei Yatsura). A former idol who wants to sing for the masses once again.
- Kiwi Watase / Nox Ryugasaki — Miyu Tomita (Funifura from KonoSuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World!). A strong-willed VTuber with plenty of talents to showcase during live concerts.
- Mei “Kim Anouk” Takanashi — Miyuri Shimabukuro (Aliya Mahvash from Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury). A talented pianist who has won many awards. Her appearance and personality pushed people away, but her lonely days ended when she made real friends.
Doga Kobo has maintained a home page and a Twitter (X) page to promote Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night. You can find additional series information and Key Visuals there.
Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night, but They Can Sing and Dance During the Day
The plot details are still somewhat unknown, but we have learned more. The titular jellyfish from Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night is an art piece that inspired a couple of people in the story. It was even drawn by one of the main characters. The series follows four girls who, for various reasons, have reached an endpoint in their creative aspirations. Mahiru is an artist who is searching for inspiration. Kano is a former idol who wants to step into the limelight again. Kiwi is a VTuber who clashes with others. Mei is an award-winning pianist who felt isolated from others. These four unite to form the artist group JELEE.
