Studio Doga Kobo has set out to celebrate their 50th anniversary with an original anime series. Doga Kobo is also working on the WTF idol anime series Oshi no Ko. Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night (Yoru no Kurage wa Oyogenai) is shaping up to be another WTF anime series from this studio, simply because the trailer doesn’t suggest otherwise. It’s a live-action trailer, but this is definitely meant to advertise an anime series. The first and second trailers are no different.

Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night‘s plot details are pretty scarce right now, but the home page gives us some insight. An unnamed girl, perhaps the girl with pink hair power seen in one of the key visuals and trailers, is seeking something to like. Shibuya is one of the best places to find creativity and life, and it’s the place this girl calls home.
This girl drifts aimlessly through the nights of Shibuya, unable to find what she’s searching for. However, things change for her after a special encounter. The lost girl might just find the creative spark she needs to achieve her goals. Other unnamed girls are likely to find their own sparks as well.
Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night Origins
This is an original anime series created by JELEE and produced by Doga Kobo. Ryohei Takeshita of Ero-manga Sensei fame is directing Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night. Yuki Yaku, who previously worked on Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki, will oversee the series composition and write the screenplay. The characters will be brought to life by Popman3580, the character designer, and Junichiro Taniguchi, the character animator.
