The “Plus Ultra!!” hype is now heading to Hollywood.
It was revealed on Wednesday by Legendary Entertainment that they will be producing a live-action Hollywood film adaptation of the popular manga series My Hero Academia. The manga series’ editor Ryosuke Yoritomi will be overseeing this production for Shueisha. TOHO who will distribute the film on Japan. In addition, Jay Ashenfelter and Alex Garcia are confirmed to overseeing the production for Legendary Entertainment.
The manga’s popularity has expanded to an anime series and anime film. The fourth season of My Hero Academia is now in the works while its anime film My Hero Academia: Two Heroes has conquered box office charts ranking it to the 10th highest-grossing domestic anime film of all time beating Studio Ghibli’s The Wind Rises. It earned $5,768,366 USD in the United States and Canada alone while it earned around 1.5 billion yen (about $13.46 million USD) in Japan.
The My Hero Academia manga series is created by Kohei Horikoshi and was launched in July 2014 in the Weekly Shonen Jump. The manga has published a total of 20 volumes in Japan. The manga series (along with its spinoff My Hero Academia: Vigilantes has sold more than 17 million copies.
