High Card Season 2 has been unveiled in a new trailer. The dangers of collecting magical playing cards have never been more severe. Finn would have wrapped this up last season if he had Yami Yugi backing him up, but I digress. We’ll have to wait until January 2024 to see what sort of cards fate deals Finn and his friends. Until then, we have a trailer to enjoy.
Studio Hibari has maintained a home page to promote the series and an official Twitter account. Behind-the-scenes information and extras, including the key visuals, can be found there. They have also shared the trailer and the artist’s original rough outline of the recent key visual.
Luck of the Draw
This series follows what looks like a regular story at first. Finn Oldman (voiced by Gen Sato) is an orphan of the Kingdom of Fourland. He discovers that his orphanage is on the brink of collapse. The landlord is making plans to shut the place down. Finn makes his way to a casino to put his skills to use and make a fortune. He’s then taken down a different path by High Card, a group of players whose goal is to collect all 52 X-Playing Cards.
The X-Playing Cards grant superhuman abilities to whosoever holds even one of them. Finn’s Two of Spades gives him the “Neo New Nambu” ability. This allows him to summon a loaded Nambu revolver in one hand and extra bullets in his other hand. The cards are stolen and scattered around the kingdom a month before the series’ events. The King of Fourland has tasked Finn’s group with recovering all 52 cards. This is the impossible scenario where Finn has found himself.
High Card Origins
Homura Kawamoto, Hikaru Muno, and TMS Entertainment have created High Card as a multimedia franchise. Studio Hibari has headed up the anime aspect of this franchise and released the first episode on January 9th, 2023. Junichi Wada directs the series.

If supernatural playing cards made you think of Yu-Gi-Oh!, you’re not alone. The Yami Yugi Nendoroid Figure from the Yu-Gi-Oh! section of the J-List shop is ready to tag in.
