Beryl and his cute apprentices are returning to our screens soon! He is a master in the arts of swordsmanship, having trained numerous blade masters who wrote their own legends. However, the remote location of his dojo and lack of worldly experience have skewed his perception of things. Beryl believes that he’s nothing more than a humble sword teacher, even after he challenges the strongest fighters in the kingdom. His very attractive apprentices are determined to make everyone else see him for the master he is. We’ll find out how successful they are when From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman: My Hotshot Disciples Are All Grown Up Now and They Won’t Leave Me Alone (Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru: Tada no Inaka no Kenjutsu Shihan Datta noni, Taisei Shita Deshitachi ga Ore o Hottekurenai Ken) Season 2 premieres on July 8th, 2026.

Shigeru Sagazaki released the original From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman novel on the user-generated novel website Shosetsuka ni Naro on November 17th, 2020. Shigeru Sagazaki and Tetsuhiro Nabeshima released the original light novel adaptation on April 7th, 2021. Square Enix has since published ten volumes in the SQEX Novel imprint. Kazuki Sato provided the art for the manga adaptation, which debuted on August 24th, 2021. Akita Shoten has published eight volumes in Dokodemo Young Champion. The anime adaptation by studios Passione and Hayabusa Film premiered on April 5th, 2025.
From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman Cast
The older master and two of his adoring students are as follows:
- Beryl Gardinant — Hiroaki Hirata (Rikiya Yotsubashi “Re-Destro” from My Hero Academia). Beryl is a humble sword teacher who trained master swordswomen.
- Allucia Citrus — Nao Toyama (Takao and Atago from Kantai Collection). Allucia is the leader of the Knights of the Liberion Order. She is Beryl’s former student and harbors feelings for him.
- Curuni Crueciel — Yuki Hirose (Iska Bra from Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?). Curuni is another of Beryl’s cute students. He encourages her to wield a massive Zweihänder to complement her incredible strength.
Studios Passione and Hayabusa Film maintain a website and a Twitter (X) account to promote From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman. You can find more information about the series and the key visuals at those sites.
The Students Return! From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman
Beryl Gardinant is a mighty sword trainer who runs a dojo in the countryside. With no real-life experience or true measurement of strength, he considers himself nothing more than an average swordsman. However, many of his students have gone on to become legendary warriors and attribute their success to him. Only one student thought to find Beryl and drag him into the spotlight he deserves: Allucia Citrus, the leader of the Knights of the Liberion Order. She aims to give him a stage upon which to shine and to become his loving wife.
Allucia pulled strings to make Beryl the Order’s new instructor by the King’s imperial decree. Beryl’s father took the opportunity to kick him out so he could find a nice girl in the capital and start a family. Beryl’s odds of finding such a girl are good. Allucia already wants to be his wife, and Beryl has other female students who fawn over him. These cute sword-and-sorcery waifus will need his strength as dark forces begin to appear in the capital one after another.
