Late last week, a bomb was dropped on the English visual novel fandom. Fate/Stay Night is finally getting an official translation, and it’s coming this year. It will launch on PC and Nintendo Switch and is based on the Realta Nua version, complete with voices. It’s safe to say Witch on the Holy Night convinced, at last, Type-Moon to throw Western fans a bone. Feel free to read my spoiler-free review for my thoughts on that title. This is brilliant news for fans, old and new. There’s nothing like the Fate series, and the original Fate/Stay Night visual novel is incredible. The only caveat is that it will obviously have the sex scenes removed, even though their necessity in the story is debatable. If you have yet to play it, I cannot recommend it enough. It’s engaging from start to finish, even if the slice-of-life sections can drag a bit.
If you’re a new fan of the series, this is the perfect time to jump in. We even have a helpful, spoiler-free guide for newcomers. We’ll now have the three biggest Type-Moon releases in English, between this, the upcoming Tsukihime remake, and Witch on the Holy Night. It’s been a long wait with far too many spin-offs coming over before this did. But I’m still happy to see it. No release date has been set, but I’d bet it’ll be closer to the end of the year. The only platforms currently are the Nintendo Switch and Steam. There’s no word, at this time, on a physical release, but Witch on the Holy Night got one, so I’d be shocked if their most requested title didn’t.
