We’ve seen cute girls doing a variety of cute things in anime over the years. From cute girls playing music and cute girls playing beach volleyball to cute girls becoming music idols and even cute girls competing in deadly butt-bumping water sports battles. We’ve yet to see anyone tackle the world of cutesy professional fishing, though. Thankfully, the anime adaptation of Yasuyuki Kosaka’s manga Hōkago Teibō Nisshi (Afterschool Embankment Journal) is here to rectify that with an April 7th premiere.
The official website for the Hōkago Teibō Nisshi anime shared a new trailer for the series, alongside confirmation that the show will be premiering on AT-X on April 7th at 10 p.m. The show is also set to broadcast on Tokyo MX, MBS, RKK Kumamoto Broadcasting, and BS11, as well as stream online in Japan via d Anime Store.
The trailer above also gives us a preview of the opening theme song for the anime, titled “Sea Horizon.” The song is performed by the four main cast members of the show. That same adorable foursome also performs the ending theme song, “Tsuri no Sekai e” (To the World of Fishing).
The cast of four main characters in Hōkago Teibō Nisshi is as follows:
- Kanon Takao as Hina Tsurugi
- Natsumi Kawaida as Natsumi Hodaka
- Yū Sasahara as Yūki Kuroiwa
- Satomi Akesaka as Makoto Ohno
The anime is being produced by Doga Kobo, with Takaharu Okuma set to direct it. Okuma previously worked on Uzamaid! and Himouto! Umaruchan. Fumihiko Shimo, who previously worked on How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift? and Anima Yell!, is in charge of series composition. Katsuhiro Kumagai, previously a staff member on Gabriel DropOut and Luck & Logic, will be the character designer for the series. Miki Sakurai, the composer for The Quintessential Quintuplets, will be composing the music for Hōkago Teibō Nisshi.
A summary of the original manga, which was first launched by author Kosama in February 2017, according to MyAnimeList:
Hina Tsurugi is a first year student at a coastal high school and regards herself as an indoorsy sort of person. Walking along the embankment, she runs into an older schoolmate, Kuroiwa, who invites her to join the “Teibou” club and start fishing! Surrounded by eccentric club members, how will Hina’s high school life turn out?
