Crunchyroll’s Industry Panel at the recent Anime Frontier convention saw the renowned anime and game localization company introduce a slate of highly-anticipated anime series that they plan to simulcast in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Set to air early in 2023, with a couple of them streaming right in January, Crunchyroll provided a list of the seven anime series in alphabetical order, and provided trailers to accompany each listing, to give eager fans even more to look forward to.
Campfire Cooking in Another World with my Absurd Skill
Set to air sometime in January 2023 by Crunchyroll, this popular isekai title finds a normal guy arrive in a medieval magical world with a seemingly useless power. Mukoda’s isekai-granted skill, called “Online Grocery”, turns out to be far more useful than he thought, and there’s a chance he can do more than survive in the new world he finds himself in.
The series is produced by studio MAPPA, and directed by Kiyoshi Matsuda, with scripts written by Michiko Yokote, character designs by Nao Ōtsu, with music composition by Masato Kōda, Kana Utatane, and Kuricorder Quartet. Campfire Cooking in Another World with my Absurd Skill is an adaptation of a light novel series by Ren Eguchi, which began publication in November 2016.
Handyman Saitou in Another World
Likewise set to air sometime in January 2023, and likewise another isekai series following a normal guy in an abnormal situation, Saitou is a handyman who can repair equipment for warriors, wizards, and elves, and can open chests containing great treasures.
Handyman Saitou in Another World is an adaptation of a manga series by Kazutomo Ichitomo, which began publication in October 2018. The anime series is being produced by studio C2C, with direction by Toshiyuki Kubooka, and scripts written by Kenta Ihara. Character designs were provided by Yōko Tanabe, and the music will be composed by Tomotaka Ōsumi.
Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari
Just as before, Crunchyroll will be streaming this series sometime in January 2023 and it’s not an isekai storyline this time. Based on the manga series by Onigunsou, which began publishing in April 2014, the story follows two people with the divine power to send spirits to their own world. Kunato Hyoma lost a loved one to them and feels a great deal of hatred, while Botan Nagatsuki is filled with gratitude after they saved her, thus they have conflicting ideals.
The anime series is being produced by Bandai Namco Pictures and directed by Ryuichi Kimura. Keiichirō Ōchi will be writing the scripts, and Shiori Fujisawa will be designing the characters. Music is being composed by John Kanda and XELIK.
Masamune-kun’s Revenge R
The second season of the popular anime series Masamune-kun’s Revenge, Crunchyroll is set to stream this series sometime in Spring 2023, the story follows Masamune as he seeks to get revenge on the girl who harshly rejected him and called him ‘pigs foot’ years ago. He dropped some weight and became handsome, all to seduce her, and upon her falling for him, he plans to harshly reject her just as she did to him. Of course, some revenge plans have unforeseen twists.
Masamune-kun’s Revenge is an adaption of the manga series written by Hazuki Takeoka and illustrated by Tiv, which began publication on October 2012, Its story concluded in June 2018. The anime series is produced by studio Silver Link, with direction by Mirai Minato, script supervision by Michiko Yokote, and Yokote and Kento Shimoyama writing the scripts, featuring character designs by Yūki Sawairi. The main staff and cast members are reprising their roles from the prior season.
Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts
Crunchyroll will be streaming this series in April 2023. Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts follows the titular king and his recent human sacrifice, who neither begs for mercy or to be returned home. In fact, she acts so strangely for a sacrifice, even accepting her own death, that the King not only spares her but makes her his human consort.
This anime adaptation will be produced by studio J.C.Staff. Chiaki Kon will direct, scripts will be written by Seishi Minakami, Shinya Hasegawa have designed the characters, and the music was composed by Kohta Yamamoto.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel – Northern War
Crunchyroll has video game fans covered, too. The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel – Northern War is an adaptation of the beloved Trails series developed by Nihon Falcom. The series will begin airing in January 2023. The series takes place between the video games Trails of Cold Steel II, and Trails of Cold Steel III, and follows Lavian Winslet, a girl born in the poor country of North Ambria, as she enlists in the Northern Jaegers, the largest mercenary corps in Zemuria.
The series is produced by Tatsunoko Production, with direction from Hidekazu Sato, and writing by Hideki Ryо̄ga and Mao Emura.
The Legendary Hero is Dead!
Based on the manga series written and illustrated by Subaruichi that was published between December 2014 and December 2020, Crunchyroll will be streaming this adaptation beginning in April 2023. The series follows an unlikely band of heroes trying to save the world from a demon invasion. The hero who could have saved them fell into a pitfall dug by Touka Scott, who intended for demons to fall into his traps. With the hero dead, a necromancer attempts to revive him, but failing this, she implants Touka’s soul into the hero’s rotting body. We’ll let the rules judges determine if this counts.
This is a Liden Films production, with direction by Rion Kujo, music composition by Kana Konishi, and Yukio Kondо̄.
