Bandai Namco’s 2019 title Code Vein has hit the impressive milestone of three million in sales, the company announced earlier this week. Lovely artwork was shared to mark the occasion, thanking players. For those unfamiliar with Code Vein, this happens when you cross the combat of From Software’s Elden Ring with some over-the-top, edgy anime. That’s a compliment, I assure you.
My wife and I picked Code Vein up last year after she put in hundreds of hours in Elden Ring and wanted to try something new. It’s brutal but absolutely worth your time. It’s even free to American PlayStation Plus members until April 3rd. If you add it to your library before that date, you can download it and play it any time as long as you have an active subscription. Be sure to add it if you’re interested!
To go a little more in-depth, Code Vein casts players as a Revenant, a human brought back to life via a parasite in their blood, effectively making them a vampire. Pairing up with another player or a computer-controlled partner, you’ll adventure into a post-apocalyptic world to fight many difficult enemies and bosses to discover what happened to the outside world.
Aside from its punishing difficulty, the game is also well-known for its lovely cast of waifus, with all the assets and alluring designs you’ve come to expect from the team behind God Eater. With some anime cutscenes by ufotable, of Demon Slayer and Fate series fame, Code Vein has a lot of eye candy for anime fans.
These numbers are good news for Code Vein fans, as it leaves some hope for a sequel. It will not come anywhere close to Elden Ring’s astronomical twenty million. But three million sales are nothing to scoff at, given it’s a brand-new title. Despite the current trend of hating on Japanese games, these sales show that games from The Land of the Rising Sun resonate even now with players worldwide. Fans of From Software would love this beautiful figma of Lady Maria from Bloodborne!
Code Vein is now available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
