You might recall a few months ago when I reported here, on the J-List Blog, that the Higurashi: When They Cry franchise was getting its own mobile game. Well, that game is still going strong and has announced quite possibly one of the most bizarre and potentially unholy crossover events in the history of gacha games with the girls from Clannad paying a visit to Hinamizawa.
From August 13th to the 27th, players of the game will be able to participate in a special crossover event featuring characters from the polar opposite of Higurashi: Clannad. Yes, I did feel the need to repeat that information twice in a row because that’s the only way that I could wrap my brain around it.
On the official Higurashi – Mei Twitter account, they posted a special video to announce the event.

Why yes, those were the characters from Higurashi looking extra moe with sparkling expressions and radiant smiles. It almost seems weird to see without imagining that those same girls are somehow going to get into a bloody fight (potentially over Keiichi) that will see one of them dead since that’s all that happens in Hinamizawa.
Ok, I truly somehow doubt that Clannad makers, Key, would allow their characters to be loaned over to the Higurashi world just for them to be murdered in someone else’s game. Even still, this is certainly one combination that I never expected to see ever, and I’m very curious to know how it will work.
Unfortunately, the Higurashi mobile game is still locked to Japan with no English release date anywhere to be seen, which is sad as I would almost certainly play the crap out of a Higurashi gacha game. Maybe if we’re all really good and eat all our vegetables, Santa Anime will drop an English release date in our stockings before the end of the year.
