An infamous “black witch” lives alone in the Black Forest near a quaint village. Her touch and breath can poison anyone who comes near her. Despite her poisonous nature and terrible reputation, she is actually a very kind and shy girl who brews very popular and potent potions. She can only appreciate the life she dreams of at a distance. We’ll see how she goes about her magical and solitary daily life when Champignon Witch (Champignon no Majo) premieres sometime in January 2026.
Tachibana Higuchi released the original Champignon Witch manga series on October 18th, 2019. Hakusensha has since published six volumes in Manga Park.
Champignon Witch Cast
The black witch and her new friend are as follows:
- Luna — Haruka Shiraishi (Horn from Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?). Luna is a so-called “black witch.” She brews potions for the nearby town.
- Lize — Yuki Sakakihara (Asahi Ikusaba from My One-Hit Kill Sister). Lize is an amnesiac boy prophesied to bring about “Ruin.” Luna took him as an apprentice to change his fate.

The Champignon Witch and the Apprentice of Ruin
Luna is a kind-hearted and painfully shy girl. She is known and feared as the champignon (mushroom) witch due to her use of mushrooms and the trail of mushrooms she leaves everywhere. Luna wants nothing more than to make friends and find love. However, her body exudes dangerous poisons that could bring even fully-grown men to the brink of death. She also bears the title of a “black witch,” a magic-user who has not pledged her loyalty to the kingdom. As such, the royal family has decreed that her kind be executed.
Luna still does her best to help people in need, even if they flee in terror. Her kindness persists even in the face of condemnation from her fellow black witches. Luna has rescued a guy who was stabbed and left to float downriver near her mushroom-shaped house. Though she risked her life to purify the poison that threatened him, the black witch’s council demanded his life. He is a cursed one who will bring about “Ruin.” Luna declares her intent to help him avoid that fate, the same fate she crushed.
