BIRDIE WING (BIRDIE WING -Golf Girls’ Story-) proves that anything can be interesting in the hands of talented creators. This series did that to golf. Granted, Adam Sandler’s movie Happy Gilmore beat them to it by a few years, but this is anime, and these are cute girls playing high-stakes golf.
Season 2 is set to premiere on April 7th, just a day over a year after Season 1 aired. Until then, let’s all enjoy the trailer.

Golf Girls Tee Off
For those new to the series, BIRDIE WING, whose title comes from the golf term “birdie,” which means gaining a score of one less than par, follows two girls from very different backgrounds meeting and bonding over the game of golf. Eve (voiced by Akari Kito) is from the European state of Nafrece. She earns money as an underground golfer and runs afoul of the local Mafia.
Her counterpart, Aoi Amawashi (voiced by Asami Seto), comes from an upper-class family, differing from Eve’s more peasant-like existence. Aoi is the daughter of the Amawashi Group’s CEO and is highly skilled in golf. Eve challenges her to a 1-hole match and suffers a defeat that sparks her competitive spirit.
Eventually, Eve joins Aoi at the Raiho Girls’ Academy, which has a top-of-the-line golf program. Aoi, who had come to appreciate Eve’s spirit and golf skills, was pleased. Together, they would take on all sorts of challenges.
Whether or not a yuri situation would arise from this is not clear. Place your bets, my cultured friends.
BIRDIE WING Origins
BIRDIE WING -Golf Girls’ Story- is an original series that does not adapt any pre-existing material. Bandai Namco Pictures has tasked director Takayuki Inagaki and writer Yosuke Kuroda to bring this girls’ golf story to life. Judging by the positive reception when it premiered on April 6th, 2022, their bet on an entirely new series was well placed.
