A brief teaser trailer for Berserk of Gluttony (Boushoku no Berserk Ore dake Reberu to Iu Gainen wo Toppa suru, or Berserk of Gluttony: The One That Exceeds the Concept of Levels) has appeared. This is likely to keep fans of the series hungry for more. Yes, there might be puns about the title in this article, buckle up. It’s a bit of an hors d’oeuvre that should hype fans up for the appetizer of a full trailer. The main course, the series itself, has no release date besides a tentative 2023 window. There’s not even a studio attached to this. There’s just the “Berserk of Gluttony Production Committee” to turn to for information.
Besides the trailer, there’s some character art to look over: a profile picture of the main character Fate Graphite, a couple of full body shots, and Fate’s sentient sword Greed from different angles.
Even though there’s no official studio attached, there are still websites to visit to learn more about the forthcoming series. There is a home page with just a little bit of series information, and an official Twitter page that doesn’t have much more, but there is a key visual to enjoy. Those new to the series can just get in on the ground floor of something new.
An Insatiable Hunger, an Empty World
Berserk of Gluttony is set in a world where people can have “abilities,” gifts that enable them to do certain things. The main character, a lowly guard with the ability of “gluttony” is treated poorly by everyone, including his high-class, noble employers. Fate Graphite, voiced by Ryota Osaka, eats constantly, and no food or drink can sate his need for nourishment. That’s what his gluttony skill does, it makes him hungry, and his perceived uselessness has made him a target of ridicule.
Despite his low lot in life, Fate is a dutiful guard, and moves to stop a thief from committing his crime. During the fight, Fate kills the guard, and his gluttony skill is activated. Fate “eats” the thief’s skill, and not only does he grow stronger, his hunger abates for the first time. Realizing his true potential and power, Fate leaves the noble family who treats him like trash and goes on a journey to gain power and take revenge on those who wronged him. Along the way, he obtains his trademark sword, the sentient blade known as Greed, who is voiced by Tomokazu Seki.
His journey will see him make friends, such as the waifu trio Roxy, Eris, and Myne, whom he will need as he uncovers the secrets of his skill and his own family.
Berserk of Gluttony Origins
Berserk of Gluttony first gained ravenous fans as a novel series written by Ichika Isshiki and posted to the user-generated novel website Shosetsuka ni Naro from 2017 through 2022. It later resumed on Kakuyomu, and continues to this day. Micro Magazine picked up and hired the artist fame, turning the series into a light novel, on November 30th, 2017, and they have since published eight volumes so far.
On March 1st, 2018, Micro Magazine brought the artist Daisuke Takino on board and adapted the series to manga, where it has since published nine volumes, and it is likely to sell many more.
Besides food, do you think Fate hungers for anything else? If he saw Alvina-chan and her skimpy school uniform, do you think he’d hunger in a different way? The Alvina-chan 1/7 Figure Uniform Ver. figure available on the J-List Store would certainly make anyone feel a great need.
