A girl’s quest to make new friends takes an interesting and yuri-filled turn. Her first friend, a popular school idol, confesses to her on the school roof. The “friends to lovers” pipeline was particularly short this time. What’s more, other girls are starting to get closer and a bit more “friendly” with her. We’ll see if she can get the yuri harem ending when There’s No Freaking Way I’ll Be Your Lover! Unless… ~Next Shine~ (Watashi ga Koibito ni Nareru Wakenaijan, Muri Muri!) premieres on November 21st, 2025. Season 2 will appear in theaters on that date, with an additional five episodes premiering on television sometime afterward.
Teren Mikami and Eku Takeshima released the original There’s No Freaking Way I’ll Be Your Lover! Unless… light novel on February 21st, 2020. Shueisha has since published eight volumes and two short story collections in the Dash X Bunko imprint.

The unexpected couple and an equally cute friend are as follows:
- Renako Amaori — Kanna Nakamura (Narita Top Road in Uma Musume: Pretty Derby). Renako is a loner by nature who wants to enjoy a happy high school life.
- Mai Oduka — Saori Onishi (Yuki Sumi in Oshi no Ko). Mai is the school idol and minor celebrity who appears in magazines.
- Satsuki Koto — Kana Ichinose (Suletta Mercury from Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury). Satsuki is Mai’s caring childhood friend.

The Friends to Lovers Pipeline Shortens in There’s No Freaking Way I’ll Be Your Lover! Unless…
Renako Amaori spent her middle school years playing video games instead of hanging out with friends. She decided to make a change when she started high school. Her high school debut was a resounding success. Renako joined a group of friends and became more extroverted. Things took a turn when she had a fateful dive off the school roof with the popular girl Mai Oduka. Mai quite literally fell in love with her.
Mai and Renako bond over having to put on a confident, outgoing persona. This bond leads Mai to confess to Renako. Renako isn’t quite sure about taking such a drastic leap. Situations arise when other girls flock to her with their own confessions. Getting close and cozy with these cute girls pulls her heart in different directions. Let’s hope she ends up with Best Girl Mai.
