Uzaki-chan hates that Sakurai calls her mother by her first name. Later, the Uzaki family has a meeting!
Episode 5 – “The Whole Uzaki Clan Wants to Get Together!”
Hmm.
Now that Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! introduced us to the whole family, we can talk about one quirk they share. No, not the quirk where they create delusions and treat them as reality. The Uzaki family’s names are all from nature! We know Hana and Tsuki’s names already. And their Japanese kanji, 花 (hana) and 月 (tsuki), spellings prove we’re talking about a flower and the moon. Fujio, the father, spells his name 藤生 (fujio), which means wisteria life. Kiri, the second oldest child and Hana’s little brother, spells his name 桐 (kiri), which is the paulownia tree. That tree is also known as the princess tree, empress tree, or foxglove. Finally, Yanagi, the youngest girl, spells her name 柳 (yanagi), which refers to a willow tree. So, the dad and the kids are all flowering plants and trees on earth, while the mom is a celestial body. That sounds right to me!

Uh oh. Uzaki-chan is mad at Sakurai. Sakurai doesn’t know why. But we do because we saw what he did in the last episode of Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!. The Asais assume he’s the cause of Uzaki-chan’s mood. Eek! Let’s pile on all the madness! Tsuki showed up at the café too! Hoho. The Asais immediately noticed Sakurai called Mrs. Uzaki “Tsuki.” Will we have another baka couple moment when Hana and Shinichi keep yelling each other’s names? Haha! Sakurai needs to call everyone by their given names! Master is not Master Asai’s first name… Akihiko desu! Here we go. Baka couple! Hee hee. Look at “Shinichi-san” blush!
Next chapter on Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!. Sakurai goes to the gym. This trainer will give Sakurai the hard sell on joining the gym. Sakurai doesn’t think he can convince Uzaki-chan to join him. Of course. The gym trainer was Uzaki-chan’s dad, Fujio. He’s a couple years older than Tsuki. Just like Sakurai-senpai to Hana-chan! Fujio can’t get his daughter to sign up for membership either. Oh no. Fujio learned that “Senpai” is a guy!
Finally, Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! puts the whole family together in a scene. The kids all look like Tsuki. No wonder Fujio feels left out. Oh? The usual? Fujio’s family meetings look serious, but the topics are not. Welp, this could be serious: Hana has a boyfriend! Kiri and Yanagi are already having fun. Aw. Daddy Fujio misses his kids speaking in the Kansai dialect.
Yanagi wants to know about Hana’s “boyfriend.” The Uzaki siblings know to push each other’s buttons. Uh oh. Hana let slip that she’s visited Sakurai’s home already. We’ve seen it many times in Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!. Part of Tsuki’s misunderstanding of Sakurai’s intentions cleared up. Will she join the chorus of “Just date already!”? But Sakurai is not Hana’s boyfriend! Now the whole family erupted. Uh oh. Kiri realized that his fantasy of Hana’s cute senpai making noodles shattered. Tsuki’s delusion about Sakurai pursuing her became worse. Yanagi appears to be the lone sane Uzaki.
Next time, Uzaki-chan wants to celebrate a birthday. Whose? Sakurai’s is on November 29th, so what will she do for him?
