Episode 19 — “Capture Those Delicious Memories!”
Hmm.
Anime characters often have simple goals as part of the premise of their respective shows. Become the Hokage, the demon lord, find a missing family member, etc. However, these heroes and heroines will never achieve their goals unless they have the discipline to train or better themselves. How about the characters in a slice-of-life cosplay show? Having the discipline to attain goals is the theme of this My Dress-Up Darling episode. Marin won and failed at two different things because of her focused mindset, or lack thereof.
First, she set a goal to own a fancy camera for her cosplay hobby because using a smartphone wouldn’t be good enough. In My Dress-Up Darling S2, episode 15, Marin’s manager told Gojou that Marin had taken more modeling jobs to earn more money. Previously, she had shown a lazy approach to accepting requests, but Marin had a goal and needed funds to achieve it. Marin changed her attitude to a disciplined one. Gojou wishes she had taken the same discipline to choose which camera to buy, but let’s call this purchase a success.
Second, that similar flightiness explained how she put on the pudginess! Marin had joined the Gojous for dinners in the last season of My Dress-Up Darling because Gojou couldn’t stand watching her unhealthy meal choices. But then he started making her breakfast to take home. Marin’s lack of discipline about her eating habits proved her undoing. You can’t eat breakfast before going to bed! That extra meal wasn’t even in her caloric calculations when she tried to figure out where the extra ones came from. She also had extra motivation to stop the bedtime snacking: Fitting into Gojou’s tailor-made cosplay outfits. Yes, Marin! Put the pudge on the back foot and win!
My Dress-Up Darling Makes Me Go Heh.
Yay! Marin is at her hair salon bragging about her not-yet boyfriend. She calls him “the hottest one!” Kyaah! Uh oh. Her hairstylist noticed her face’s shape had changed. Has she put on weight? No confirmation yet. Look! Modeling friends! One’s a model and the other is their makeup artist. Marin is still talking about Gojou with her modeling colleagues. Love is in the air in My Dress-Up Darling! The other model has recently found a new boyfriend. Remember the drama around changing a Facebook relationship status? Do the kids these days have something similar on the newer social media accounts? When will Marin make squealing noises about making Gojou her boyfriend? Ack. Confirmation. Her talent manager told her to lose weight!
Caloric Surplus Leads to Partial My Dress-Up Darling Recap
Is it true? Marin needs to check her cosplay outfits! Yes! She can’t fit into her outfits! Marin can’t slip into her Slippery Girls cosplay! Her Black Lobelia bustier can’t contain her bust! Her underboob spills out of Veronica’s slave girl outfit, but something else spills out over her shorts. Marin didn’t order muffins today! Who’ll nibble on those muffin tops? Nooooo! My Dress-Up Darling reminded us of the good stuff from its first season. Marin’s girlfriends can’t tell, but they shouldn’t eat salty snacks in front of her. They didn’t notice anything different when Marin put on the Rei-sama because she wore the slimming underwear! But where did Marin’s pounds come from? She’s been eating healthy… Ah. She’s been eating her extra Gojou food before bed!
Diet time. Marin is sad because she can’t fit into Gojou’s outfits anymore. Gojou recalls that cosplay magazines usually have sections on fitness. My favorite My Dress-Up Darling cosplay character is a fitness influencer! But he thought they were only for sculpting bodies for specific characters. Uh oh. Marin admits she’s been snacking before bedtime. That’s too many calories! Eh, Gojou must have miscalculated by a factor of ten. Marin will lose the pudge if she eats the breakfast Gojou makes for her, for, uh, you know, breakfast.
My Dress-Up Darling Wuvs Gyarus
Problem diet solved. Marin returns to cosplay issues, like buying the loose pairs of socks that gyarus wear. Stretch them out before wearing them, though. Oh, and surprise! Marin bought that Canon DSLR she had been craving and saving up for since My Dress-Up Darling’s first season! Nice product placement there, Canon EOS. What does Kiss M mean? Who cares, but that’s why Marin bought this particular model. M is for “Marin!” Canon brands the M50 (America, Europe, and elsewhere) “Kiss M” in Japan because its “Kiss” marketing name for cameras always meant “entry-level.” Be afraid, Gojou, be very afraid. Watch her bank card closely if you ever marry her.
Marin is ready for her gyaru photo shoot. Gojou attains another tier to his simp card: using a camera body. Whoa! Marin’s face in 8K! CloverWorks flexes its animation biceps again for My Dress-Up Darling. Marin’s monologue sounds like a gravure model’s video. You can see Gojou’s flushed face from here!
