We honored some top-tier girls with pink hair power last week. Now we can look at the anime girls with red hair, who personify a fiery spirit in the face of adversity. We’ll respect the classic waifus, but let’s start with a more recent girl who lit up the stars themselves.
1. Suletta Mercury (Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury)
Suletta is the current Gundam pilot of the season. She’s a girl from Mercury who started off as little more than a tool for vengeance. Suletta thought little of the people she killed in battle. However, she changed over time and became a stronger person. Indeed, she even got herself a lovely wife, Miorine Rembran, the daughter of her enemy.
Sunrise began airing Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury on October 2nd, 2022.
For those looking for the cute yuri waifu couple to hold, the Suletta Mercury LookUp Figure and Miorine Rembran LookUp Figure are available for pre-order now. You’ll be in good company because the summer convention season has seen merch from the J-List shop’s Mobile Suit Gundam section fly off the digital shelves. 2. Rias Gremory (High School DxD)
A truly thicc demon waifu of red hair we have previously honored. Rias is as powerful as she is sexy; that makes her all the more fiery and alluring. Of course, she dresses up or down for her husband, Issei. She loves him so much that she helps him get the harem ending. Although she is the “legal wife” of Issei’s impressive harem of wives.
Ichiei Ishibumi and Miyama-Zero worked on the original light novel from September 20th, 2008, to March 20th, 2018. Fujimi Shobo published all 25 volumes and four short stories in Dragon Magazine.
3. Kallen Kozuki / Kallen Stadtfeld (Code Geass)
Kallen is a deceptively cute and demure schoolgirl with red hair. In reality, she’s a ruthless and skilled freedom fighter with red hair who piloted Knightmare frames. Kallen operated under the Japanese Resistance until Zero took command and founded the Order of the Black Knights. Though she has dedicated her life to freeing Japan from the Holy Britannian Empire, Kallen still has eyes for Lelouch. She is the Best Girl of Code Geass, and I will fight under her banner.
Sunrise began producing numerous anime series based on Lelouch’s conquest from October 6th, 2006, through February 9th, 2019. The series will continue sometime in the future with Code Geass: Z of the Recapture.
4. Erza Scarlet (Fairy Tail)
Erza is a proud and mighty knight of red hair who fights for the Fairy Tail guild. Her abilities lie in conjuring and perfectly utilizing different armor sets with various unique powers. Erza is essentially a cosplayer who gets new powers by wearing several costumes. Many of them are very revealing, which is one of the reasons why she is a great character.
Hiro Mashima began to write and illustrate the series on August 2nd, 2006. Kodansha has since released 78 volumes across the different Fairy Tail manga series.
5. Lina Inverse (Slayers)
Lina is the “Magical Genius” of Slayers. She created new and unique spells from different branches of magic. One of those spells, Giga Slave, summons the Lord of Nightmares into this world. That spell turns Lina’s lovely red hair white, but that’s a sacrifice she’ll make to save the world.
Hajime Kanzaka and Rui Araizumi began working on Lina’s story in 1989. Fujimi Shobo has published seventeen volumes in Dragon Magazine.
6. Ranma / Ranko Saotome (Ranma 1/2)
Yes, Ranko is just Ranma’s genderswapped self. He’s cursed to turn into a girl after he’s doused in cold water. On the plus side, Ranko is attractive, and that red hair also doesn’t hurt. He retains his martial arts skills and prowess in this form, so it’s okay.
Rumiko Takahashi wrote and drew Ranma’s story between August 19th, 1987, and March 6th, 1996. Shogakukan published all 38 volumes in the Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine.
7. Kei (Dirty Pair)
Kei is the more outgoing agent of the Lovely Angels team as part of the World Welfare Works Association. Both Kei and Yuri are called the Dirty Pair because, despite victory or defeat, they leave destruction in their wake. She is an incredibly skilled fighter, both with and without weaponry. Kei also has a fiery temper to go along with her red hair.
Haruka Takachiho and Yoshikazu Yasuhiko created the original manga series from May 1980 to December 2018. Hayakawa Publishing released all nine volumes.
8. Jubei Yagyu (Hyakka Ryoran)
Jubei is a Master Samurai and the first swordswoman who trains Muneakira Yagyu. She has a contract mark on her chest. Jubei’s transformation grants her a power level measuring 5,000,000 and an honorable yet sadistic demeanor. She is the only one who gains the title of Samurai Bride, making her both the Best Girl and waifu to Muneakira.
Akira Suzuki and Niθ worked on the original light novel series between February 28th, 2009, and January 26th, 2014. Hobby Japan published all seventeen volumes in their HJ Bunko imprint.
9. Akiza Izinski / Aki Izayoi (Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s)
Aki is a psychic duelist. Her abilities allow her to manifest physical and supernatural phenomena related to Duel Monsters. It’s similar to how Millennium Item bearers like Yugi and Bakura can bring the cards to life. Aki’s red hair and dragon gained her the title “Black Rose Witch.” Yusei helped her leave the Arcadia Movement and showed her a better way of dueling and living.
Studio Gallop aired the series between April 2nd, 2008, and March 30th, 2011, in 154 episodes.
10. Yoko Littner (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann)
What’s better than a cute girl with a gun? When she has long red hair wearing a bikini top! Yoko was the Best Girl in the series, even if she didn’t get the Best Ending. Well, no one got a Best Ending. Yoko is a skilled gunner and pilot, and she is gifted with Spiral Power. Besides that, she has superhuman strength, speed, and martial arts abilities. So yes, she’s as deadly as she is sexy.
Gainax aired the series from April 1st, 2007, to September 30th, 2007, in 27 episodes. Plans were made to create a film that retells the series, but nothing came of it.
11. Miia (Monster Musume / Everyday Life with Monster Girls)
Miia is one of the many monster girls who cohabitate with Kimihito, the luckiest man in his world. She is a lamia who makes liberal use of her remarkably long body. It’s one of her more appealing features. That and the red hair, of course. Miia is the most possessive of Kimihito, as seen when she repeatedly wraps him up with her tail.
Okayado began working on his monster girl-filled series on March 19th, 2012. Tokuma Shoten has released seventeen volumes thus far in the Monthly Comic Ryu magazine.
12. Asuka Langley Sohryu (Neon Genesis Evangelion)
Asuka is one of the best red hair anime girls in existence. Like many other girls on this list, she’s as skilled and powerful as she is hot. Also, like the other girls on this list, she has a fiery temper. Shinji knows because he’s been on the receiving end of it. She’s a complete tsundere, and we love her for it.
Studio Gainax released this series from October 4th, 1995, to March 27th, 1996. However, there have been multiple additions to the series since then. There are many manga series and anime films that fans can enjoy.
