The Lasarzia Kingdom Royal Academy has a direct line to their skill-offering god. Every student goes through the ceremony to get one, including our low-rank protagonist, Regnard. As is the case with these series, Regnard gets the strangely named “Cuddle Blessing,” something that requires him to sleep with someone.
I was relieved to see his teachers and the student council president stand up for him when other students began ridiculing him. That was a nice change of pace. He still gets bullied here and there, but only until he learns how his power works and pulls off some super moves to save the day. Girls line up one after another to cuddle next to him and release their inhibitions (and bras). His harem will make him a legend in more ways than one.
The Noble Mages of My Useless Cuddle Skill Awakened, and Now I’m Building the Ultimate Harem!
Naturally, the girls that fawn over Regnard will all be powerful, noble girls. Lady Frost, a master of ice magic, is the first to get close to him. She accidentally trips over him during an outing, falls on top of him, activates his magic, and falls asleep. She’s a kind girl who notices how hard Regnard works to fulfill his dream, and she partners with him so they can help one another. It’s nice to see it play out. Her family’s harsh instruction made her emotionally withdrawn, but Regnard’s magic helps her express how she truly feels.
There’s Princess Nina, but she’s a loli, so we’ll skip over the mesugaki (female brat) and talk about the aforementioned student council president. Roselia has her own unfortunate family circumstances, much like Frost, and partners with Regnard after seeing his true nature as a brave, hard-working guy. She’s the calm, cool, busty character type who completes any harem. I like that both Roselia and Frost were the first to defend Regnard because of his ability name and his lack of a noble title.
The Copious Upskirt Shots of My Useless Cuddle Skill Awakened, and Now I’m Building the Ultimate Harem!
Oh, my anime god, there are so many upskirt shots here. Many of us have read manga, get to a scene, and think, “There really should have been an upskirt shot here.” Not only because it would be nice, but because the angle and situation would have allowed for it. This manga creates opportunities for upskirt shots, like having a girl bend way over to talk to someone sitting down.
I can’t name another manga series with more frequent upskirt shots. Besides the panty shots, I like the variety in waifu archetypes, from loli to older girls. Everything is detailed with precision, especially in those panty shots. The artist and writer are men of culture, and their work deserves more recognition. I’ll give credit to the fight scenes, magic effects, and the lewd and non-lewd outfits. Great stuff all around.
A Cuddly Conclusion
This series doesn’t really tread new roads. A low-rank guy gets ecchi power, attracts powerful girls to his side, and fights mysterious enemies who strike from the shadows. I like that the girls aren’t just arm candy; they play active roles in the story and train with the protagonist to help him get stronger. They’re both waifus and teachers there. The story gets oddly dramatic, given the lewd, comical scenario. I guess they wanted to play it straight, even while setting up dramatic elements well after the lewd ones.
My Useless Cuddle Skill Awakened, and Now I’m Building the Ultimate Harem! handily gets a 5/5 on the Megumi rating scale. I doubt we will ever see an anime adaptation, but thank goodness for the manga. It’s full of all sorts of action, and the boy has something that resembles a Super Saiyan transformation.
