Ellie interrupts Takane and Koushi’s homework. Choosing a Prince for Takane creates drama.
Episode 10 — “Adversity Makes Shirota Stronger”
Hmm.
Nine episodes! Takamine-san took nine episodes to explain and employ that sparkly dude from the second episode! I’m familiar with Chekhov’s gun, but Chekhov’s sparkles are new to me. The anime displayed something strange in the background, and it adhered to the usual conventions of narrative building. I didn’t think we would have to wait so long to meet Prince Charming Sparkles. But I was correct, in a way. Seiya Ouji (even his name means “prince”) competes with Koushi for Cinderella’s savior. And who will play Cinderella? The class would accept no one besides the goddess of time herself. How much underwear will Takane use up to achieve her goal of sharing the stage with her Prince Charming Closet-kun?
Oh, one more thing: Crunchyroll totally missed the title translation for Takamine-san, episode 10. The localizer turned 雨降って白田固まる (ame futte Shirota katamaru) into “It Rains, and Shirota Freezes Up,” which is a literal word-for-word translation. But the title refers to and makes a pun out of the Japanese idiom 雨降って地固まる (ame futte ji katamaru), which literally translates to “the ground hardens after it rains.” However, this phrase is also a Japanese saying that means “adversity strengthens the foundations.” Here’s where Takamine-san has fun with this aphorism: one scene has Takane and Koushi walking over puddles after it rained, and Koushi sees Takane’s ripe peach in a reflection. Shirota hardened after it rained! How could he not?
Takamine-san Make Me Go Heh.

Uh oh. Takane is not in a good mood during her study session with Koushi. Why? Because Ellie stuck herself into their private time as a clunky third wheel. Why did Ellie want to go to Takane’s house so badly? She had no books, notepaper, or writing implements. How will Takamine-san explain this? Har. Takane says that Ellie should ask her girlfriend for help. Girlfriend? That confuses Koushi. Oh, he received hints. Ellie keeps pawing at Takane! Koushi, go on a snack run. Takane and Ellie need a moment alone. But not that way!

Understandably, Takane tells Ellie to jump out a window. But Ellie came over to Takane’s house to ask about her and Koushi! Takane still plays the tsundere, but Ellie isn’t as clueless as Koushi. Hah! Even Ellie knows how dense Koushi is. Har. Ellie also describes how Koushi suffers terribly from low self-esteem. Wow. Ellie and I share a brain. Takane should push Koushi down and mount him to make it obvious she likes him.
Please Admit Your Feelings, Takamine-san

Okay, Takane tries the reference frame of the “friend” who has a problem with her love interest. She still can’t admit to her feelings openly, but Takane does know all the pitfalls of her current romantic situation. Ellie will play along to hear more details. So jealous! Ellie wanted to see Takane in a catgirl suit and all wet in the bath. Takamine-san uses this scene for the season’s fanservice recap. Ellie can’t stand how cute Takane is with her dissociative language. She convinces Takane that Koushi already likes her because of the things he’s done for her. Takane is a bit clueless herself, you know.

Oh, so why did Ellie follow Koushi to Takane’s house? She wanted to touch Takane’s boobs! Is it all right? Why not? It doesn’t excite Takane for a woman to squeeze her breasts. Koushi returns but finds a different sort of wrestling than he envisioned. Fluffy oppai? No. Fluffy pussy … cat! Ellie only came over to pet Kuro the Cat.

The Takamine-san intermission visuals show how hot Takane is underneath her fall season fashion.
Takamine-san and Rain Puddles Give Shirota a Hard-On

Another day, and it’s back to school after summer vacation. It rained, but the kids had a clear walk home. There are still puddles all over the road, though. Takane claims she likes the fall uniform better because its blazer covers up her blouse when it becomes see-through after she sweats from the heat. Koushi realized that Takane was nude under her fall uniform last year if she ever used her Eternal Virgin Road ability before he became her “closet.”

Takamine-san uses this scene for a flirty walk home. Takane made her underwear disappear by using her skill to leave her umbrella at home. She proposed a game like flipping a coin: choose whether her bra or her panties are missing. Eyes on the prize, Koushi. You can make her do anything you want if you win. Or you must avoid her sadomasochistic bondage session! So, how can Koushi win this bet? How about using the rain puddles’ reflections? If it’s white, the breast is so bright. If it’s clear, the rear is so near. Oh, you chicken, Koushi. What will Takane do to him after he purposefully chose the wrong answer? She gave him chances to ogle her slit, but he didn’t have the grit.
Takamine-san’s Teasing Stiffened Shirota’s Resolve

Ah. Here’s narrative building for the season finale. The class play for the cultural festival is Cinderella, but who will play Prince Charming? Takane stalked, er, paid attention to Koushi’s contribution last year. She’ll change that to a starring role. He can’t play Closet-kun backstage, right? The class, unsurprisingly, unanimously nominates Takane to play Cinderella. Let’s see which boy will have the confidence to costar with the President. Whoops! Takane will not allow Koushi to play a backstage role. Hoho. She’ll convince him by rubbing her naked butt on his crotch! All the dudes in the class start raising their hands for a chance to play Takane’s temporary boyfriend. Even the girls!

Takamine-san starts the drama for the last two episodes. The prince of the school, Seiya Ouji, threw his hat into the ring to play Prince Charming. That’s the sparkly dude in the background we saw in the second episode! Can Koushi overcome his popularity? Takane considers making Ouji another “closet” to prevent him from playing the Prince Charming role. But Ouji might make perverted requests to keep quiet. Ah. That’s how she provokes Koushi to volunteer. How will Koushi receive more votes than Ouji? The drama starts!
Haite Kudasai, Takamine-san (Please Put Them On, Takamine-san) streams the “least-censored web version” on Crunchyroll in English audio and subtitles in multiple languages. These recaps and reviews will feature the most “cultured” broadcast version.
Aren’t you glad Koushi has as dirty a mind as Takane? We wouldn’t have all the nude ecchi scenes otherwise. Which was your favorite scene in this episode? Was it Ellie squeezing Takane’s boobs? Or the “unbe-leaf-able” censorship? Or how about Takane’s pet play photo book? Let us know in the comments below!
