Since chatting to VTuber Kyonko, I was lucky enough to speak to another great part of the VTuber community, an animator. Fans of VTuber animations have likely heard of the animation team H and Mr.H. Their animations are incredibly cute and funny, and one can easily get lost watching the same one repeatedly. I talked to H about his and Mr.H’s love of VTubers and animating.
Justin: You are, in my opinion, one of the best animators mostly creating VTuber animations. What first drew you to VTubers? Was it someone in particular?
H: Oh thanks for your commendation. Well, what first drew me into the VTubers was the certain shark, Gawr Gura. Actually, I was just browsing YouTube and found some music clips from her. And then I discovered more about VTubers.
Justin: Gawr Gura is indeed a top-tier VTuber. What’s your favorite Gura stream or event from a specific stream?
H: Ah my favorite Gura streams are all her karaoke streams.
Justin: You put out animations fairly quickly. How long does it take you to finish a video?
H: Ah all my animations take one week to finish, except those first animations when I just started).
Justin: What’s your clip selection method? Do you find the most popular clips, or do you just choose the ones you like, regardless of views?
H: Ah I choose clips that I feel are interesting. Usually YouTube recommends all those clips, and I often have many clips to animate so I let my viewers choose which to make first.
Justin: I sat in on one of your animation streams. There I asked you if the VTubers you animated watched your videos or talked about them, and you confirmed that they did, which is just awesome to me. Do you remember who they were?
H: Ah well there are many of them. But yes I always remember them. IronMouse MerryWeather, Bettel, Axel, Altare, Kaela, Kobo, and Enna. Pomu, Fugur, Millie and more.
Justin: Nice. You definitely deserve recognition for your work, especially when animating VTubers. Which do you consider your most popular animation? My guess is “Kobo speak understable languange and Calli can understand” due to the sheer view count. 500k views, and it’s just Kobo speaking cute nonsense. It’s the best.
H: Ah, in my opinion, the most popular animation that I made is “Kobo and Zeta is a duo chaostic in Kaela’s birthday.”
Justin: Haha nice. Your Kobo animations are just the best. When can fans expect the next animation? Could you give us a hint as to which VTuber it’s going to be about?
H: Ah, every week sometimes I will hold a vote on my YouTube community. On there is a hint of the next animation.
Justin: Your name is “H and Mr.H,” so are you an animation team of two, or is it just one guy?
H: Ah we are two people, a team of two.
Justin: Nice. How long have you guys been animating?
H: Ah, since the animating time or since the channel started?
Justin: Animating time.
H: Ah, since I am serious about my animating career, it has been three years. Mr.H has more years experience than me.
Justin: What first got the two of you into animation?
H: Ah we like to animate. As myself, I have tried animating since I was a teenager (but not seriously) and that is how I got into animation.
Justin: That’s great. What advice would you give to someone looking to get into animation?
H: Ah my advice is um… Just try it and finish at least one animation. Then you can find out more.
Justin: Solid advice. Let’s wrap it up here for now, I’d hate to take more of your time. Do you have any final thoughts for the readers?
H: Ah thanks for the interview. Ah my final thoughts, I just want to say: um… Well thanks for reading this, ah. Chill and enjoy.
I’d like to once again thank H of the incredible animation team H and Mr.H for chatting with me. You can catch their work on Twitter and YouTube. You might even find a new VTuber from their animations to follow.
We have a growing selection of VTuber merch, like this Gawr Gura 1/7 Figure. Take a look!
