FAKKU Manga Review: Melty Gaze

Are you an oppai fan? How about beautifully drawn, explicit hentai that comes with some sizzling storylines? If the answer is yes to both, Melty Gaze should be right up your alley. Hyocorou’s lush collection of erotic tales deliver all this in droves, and if you’re looking for something a little different from your typical hentai fare, this will do the trick nicely.

Reserved honor student Yuiko Mikage has a secret. She routinely goes to the bookstore to purchase a few magazines with some porno mags sandwiched in between them, to hide them from her old classmate Komuro-kun. She donned a disguise every time she went to grab her porn magazines, though when one night she leaves part of her purchase in the shop, Komuro goes out and finds her lost in pleasure over the idea that he’s seen through her ruse.

If you’ve ever read even a modicum of hentai before, you know where this leads. Yuiko is all hot and bothered when she buys the porn magazines from Komuro, leaving to masturbate after buying them. So one night when he finds her and “helps” her, eventually kickstarting a mutually beneficial relationship where they meet, have sex, and Komuro degrades Mikage since it turns her on. She’s a masochist who craves humiliation, and Komuro loves giving it to her.

Others, like the third story in the volume, revolve around Iishima Mizuho, a young man named Kotarou’s childhood friend. She’s grown into a massively popular idol, and in true tsundere fashion treats Kotarou like he’s a servant, telling him he’s “lucky” to be spending time with her. A few innocent touches turn into a full-on makeout session before the two are getting it on, with Mizuho confessing that she became an idol so Kotarou would end up, well, getting closer. She loses her virginity to Kotarou and the two share a few tender moments as they confess their love. It’s such a tender moment that you honestly forget a few stories back the main character in the first story was getting off on being humiliated.

Another story follows a young woman named Minato being turned down by her teacher, Takahashi-sensei, after confessing to him. At a class reunion, she shows him her true feelings, taunting him and doing everything she can to prove to him that it’s her he should have ended up with, instead of breaking things off and getting married. A bathroom tryst leads to the formation of a new relationship a few months later, as it appears Minato finally gets what she’s wanted all along.

That kind of variety is what helps set Melty Gaze part from the pack. There’s a story here for just about any kind of pervert, whether they’re looking for a romantic story or one rife with humiliation, voyeuristic exposure, or pure lust forming between two parties. There’s even one about a porn manga artist!

Coupled with believable dialogue to move the story along (yes, you’ll want to know what happens) and absolutely gorgeous artwork, Melty Gaze is a triple threat of great artwork, engaging stories, and fantastic sex scenes that’ll linger with you long after you finish reading. Just don’t be surprised if you start looking for something just as good in the seemingly never-ending sea of hentai out there.
