Christmas is here, and Santa is checking Naughty and Nice Lists. Whether Santa is another form of Odin or Santa is a cute anime girl, he is double-checking lists. Let’s run down some really “nice” girls who will be visited by Santa girls this Christmas.
1. Shoko Komi (Komi Can’t Communicate / Komi-san wa Komyushou Desu)
Shoko Komi is a cute and thicc girl with communication issues. She’s a respectful and kind girl who dreams of having many friends. Her problems with general communication might hinder this, but she’s already made a boyfriend, so she’s on the right path. Kindness most certainly earns a cute girl a spot on the Nice List.
Tomohito Oda first released his manga series on May 18th, 2016. Shogakukan has since published 31 volumes in Weekly Shonen Sunday.
2. YoRHa No.2 Type B / 2B (Nier:Automata Ver1.1a.)
2B is my pick for Waifu of 2023, so there might be some bias here. This mighty robot girl fights on a ruined earth to save what is left of humanity. Her bravery certainly earns her a place on any list, especially Santa’s Nice List. That 2B is sexy, even during a war, is just a bonus.
If some cultured 2B fan is looking for more stoic robot girl goodness for their life, the J-List shop has them covered. The 2B (YoRHa No.2 Type B) FORM-ISM Figure and the 2B (YoRHa No.2 Type B) FORM-ISM Figure Goggles OFF ver. are available for pre-order. The NieR:Automata section has much more to offer. There’s no real difference between the two figures except the headband.
2B first set the internet alight in the award-winning video game NieR:Automata. PlatinumGames, with Yoko Taro at its head, developed the game and released it on February 23rd, 2017. It is a sequel to NieR, a spin-off of the Drakengard series.
3. Nanvel Candlestick (Burn Up-W)
Nanvel is Team Warrior’s engineer. She’s a genius of robotics and cyber technology. Nanvel also likes cute things, so her prized robots are a pink elephant and a pink rabbit. There’s also a pink cockroach, which I cannot explain. Nanvel earned her spot on the Nice List with her work on Team Warrior, an all-female unit within the Tokyo Police Department. They catch bad guys. The large bills sent to the police or city are just the cost of saving the day.
Yasunori Ide and Jun Kanzaki created the original anime series for studio AIC. It was released on March 21st, 1991. Numerous sequels soon followed, and they all had plenty of fanservice.
4. Yor Forger (Spy X Family)
Yes. Yor Forger, the “Thorn Princess,” belongs on the Nice List. Despite being a very efficient assassin, she ultimately serves the forces of good. Yor is also a very loving mother who struck up a friendship with Chun-Li herself.
If you want to keep track of dates correctly, the SPY x FAMILY – 2024 Anime Calendar is now available in the store.
Tatsuya Endo began to write and illustrate SPY x FAMILY on March 25th, 2019. Shueisha has since released twelve volumes in the Jump Comics+ imprint and Shonen Jump+ magazine.
5. Frieren (Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End / Soso no Frieren)
Frieren was already a legendary hero by the time the series started. She’s also my choice for a top anime moment of 2023. She was a member of the Hero Party, where she, Himmel, Heiter, and Eisen defeated the Demon King and saved the world. Frieren continued to do good, as Himmel did, years after Himmel’s passing. She continues to earn her place on the Nice List.
Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe released their manga series on April 28th, 2020. Shogakukan has since published twelve volumes in Weekly Shonen Sunday.
6. Carul Mendosa / Carmen 99 (Gun X Sword)
Named for the number of tricks she has up her sleeves and her bust size, Carmen 99 is a very efficient information broker. She’s also a remarkably skilled fighter who can stand up to the strongest of opponents. Carmen uses her connections and tactics to aid Van in his hunt for the Claw, a man who murdered his wife years ago. She’s on this Nice List for saving her world from oblivion.
Gun X Sword was written by Hideyuki Kurata and directed by Goro Taniguchi for studio AIC. 26 episodes aired from July 4th, 2005, to December 26th, 2005.
7. Aine Chidorigafuchi (Hybrid × Heart Magias Academy Ataraxia / Maso Gakuen HxH)
Aine is a member of Amaterasu, an elite unit of Ataraxia. Her assignment is to fend off the Brigand and the Vatlantis Empire to protect her home. Her heroism alone would secure her a spot on the Nice List. After all, Aine regularly risks everything to protect those close to her. However, like a certain redhead and demon girl, she’s also completely fine with Kizuna, her lover, securing a harem for himself.
For those curious, Joe has written detailed reviews of this series.
Masamune Kuji and Hisasi worked on their light novel series from February 1st, 2014, to September 1st, 2019. Kadokawa Shoten released nineteen volumes in the Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko imprint.
8. Ryuko Matoi (Kill la Kill)
Being a rough, thicc tomboy does not disqualify someone from the Nice List. Ryuko is a skilled swordswoman who pursued her father’s killer to avenge him. This led her to a far grander conspiracy that threatened the whole world. We discussed her tale at length before, but suffice it to say that Ryuko saved the world in the best battle attire possible. This earned her a spot on the Nice List.
Hiroyuki Imaishi directed, and Kazuki Nakashima wrote this anime series for Studio Trigger. 24 episodes and one OVA aired between October 4th, 2013, and March 28th, 2014.
9. Hikaru Shidou (Magic Knight Rayearth)
The brave swordswoman Hikaru and her new friends, Fuu and Umi, were summoned to another world to save it from evil. They’re your typical isekai protagonists from a classic anime and manga series everyone worth their dakimakura should have experienced. As we agreed before, saving a world from destruction is a simple way to get onto Santa’s Nice List.
Clamp created the original manga series from November 1993 to April 1996. Kodansha released all six volumes in Nakayoshi.
10. Helba (.hack//SIGN)
Helba is an elite, legendary hacker. She’s the queen of Net Slum. Though mysterious and enigmatic, Helba offers aid to those who wish to protect the digital and offline worlds. In the anime series .hack//SIGN, she guided Mimiru and her friends to find AI Harald’s Inverted Castle. She took a more active role in the .hack//IMOQ video game series when Morganna rose to eliminate Aura and bring chaos to The World. As before, saving the world gets you onto the Nice List.
Koichi Mashimo directed, and Kazunori Ito wrote this series for Bee Train, the animation studio. Yuki Kajiura, of course, provided the epic music for the series. .hack//SIGN aired between April 4th, 2002, and September 25th, 2002, in 26 episodes.
