You’ve probably already binged through the third season of Aggretsuko, and are now rocking back and forth on your couch in a fetal position, anxious for season four. Or perhaps you’re binge reading BEASTARS, excited for the second season. If you still need something to hold your (denied) furry cravings over, then look no further! Studio Klondike is here to give you the warm and fuzzy feeling needed to last through the coming winter in the wholesome dating sim, Nekojishi. Oh, and did we mention it’s FREE?!
Taking place in Taiwan, Nekojishi opens with a college student, Lin Tian-Liao, returning to his dorm room from dance club practice to a hunky tiger spirit waiting for him. Thereafter, a leopard spirit arrives to beg for Lin’s paranormal assistance, only for his senpai from dance club to show up with snacks… and reveal that he is actually also a leopard spirit in need of his help. Unable to reach an agreement between each other, the three spirits each refuse to leave Lin’s side, and so they all move into his dorm with him. Matted up into a furball, Lin is thrown into the chaos of spirit world politics while trying to balance it with his college life and dreams.
It’s as comical as it sounds. Nekojishi doesn’t take itself too seriously. Scenarios range from erotic but playful bathhouse scenes, to idiotic exposure of furries and ancient spirits, to contemporary human world pleasures. The game is heavily rooted in Taiwanese folklore, which proves to be a nice refresher after having played so many visual novels set in Japan. Players can enjoy a small taste of Taiwan as they romance either of their three fuzzy friends.
Although a bit short, the game clocks in at only a few hours to collect all 12 endings. However, for the affordable price and the delightful illustrations, one can hardly complain. Nekojishi is available now on Steam. The uncensored NSFW version can be found via the game’s official website and Studio Klondike’s itch.io store. Both versions are free, but a donation of only $3.00 is suggested for the sake of supporting the developers. Enjoy!
