Specific character archetypes in anime and manga persist throughout the ages, and the anime glasses girls are one such necessary archetype. They stand out and look adorably cute or unbearably sexy. Wearing glasses doesn’t necessarily mean the girl is smart. Plenty of nurses and scientists don’t wear glasses, after all. Meganekko are a treasure, so we will count down some of the best.
As an aside, I’d like to thank Rob’s Anime Meganekko Gallery for the suggestions. It hasn’t been updated in years, but the list is still extensive.
1. Mineru Wachi (Mother of the Goddess’ Dormitory / Megami-ryo no Ryobo-kun)
Mineru is a student and a scientist, despite her dorm attire being as shown in the image above. At least she wears the glasses, which keeps her in the anime glasses girls club. That she wears so little makes her a strong contender for Best Girl. Mineru is the one who finds Koshi Nagumo collapsed outside and brings him back to their dorm. She gave him the “dorm mother” job, saving Koshi from homelessness.
Kadokawa Shoten published Mother of the Goddess’ Dormitory in Monthly Shōnen Ace between December 26th, 2017, and June 24th, 2022, collected in nine volumes.
2. Kobayashi (Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid / Kobayashi-san Chi no Maidragon)
Kobayashi is the coolly level-headed titular glasses girl of the series. She’s as intelligent as she looks, given her position as a computer programmer for Jigokumeguri System Engineering Inc. She saves the lovely dragon Tohru from an unfortunate fate during one of her drunken moments, and the two become well-acquainted. Kobayashi also becomes well-acquainted with other dragons, but none as much as Tohru.
Futabasha currently publishes Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid in the Monthly Action magazine.
3. Ursula Callistis / Chariot du Nord (Little Witch Academia)
Chariot wisely decided to employ a pair of cute glasses when she decided to disguise herself as Ursula. She was once a wildly popular and influential witch, though an accident at a show caused her to withdraw from public view. Ursula took up the position of Magic Astrology teacher at Luna Nova Magical Academy, where she met the heir to her Shiny Chariot status as a witch who can make people smile.

4. Nemuri Kayama / Midnight (My Hero Academia)
Midnight is not only the Best Girl but is the Best Teacher. Her clothes, her powers, and her sadistic side are all S-Rank. She is also an anime glasses girl, which makes her even better. Despite her lewd attire and sadistic nature, she is intelligent, kind, loyal, and above all, brave.
Shueisha continues to publish My Hero Academia in Weekly Shonen Jump.
5. Tashigi (One Piece)
Tashigi is a lovely and dangerous Marine Captain. Her resemblance to Kuina, a girl Zoro knew in his youth, led to some friction between the two. His use of legendary swords while a pirate led to Tashigi declaring him her enemy. She is a brilliant and dutiful marine and opposes pirates but won’t immediately attack the Straw Hat’s crew on sight.
Shueisha began publishing One Piece in Weekly Shonen Jump on July 22nd, 1997.
6. Mari Makinami Illustrious (Rebuild of Evangelion)
Mari is a fun glasses girl. She’s as skilled a pilot as Asuka but is absolutely feral in combat. Mari apparently loves the smell of LCL fluids and the heat of battle. There is more mystery to her than she lets on, but she is still a great friend and comrade to both Asuka and Shinji.
Rebuild of Evangelion is a series of four movies acting as a retelling of the original series. They aired from September 1st, 2007, to March 8th, 2021.
One of Mari’s most iconic plugsuits has to be her white version. For those who agree, she’s in the J-List shop. The Mari Makinami Illustrious 1/6 Figure White Plugsuit ver. from the Evangelion section is now available.
7. Yomiko Readman (Read or Die)
Yomiko is an avid reader, a true bibliophile. Fortunately, she can manipulate paper as a Papermaster and someone who can give people a really nasty paper cut. She secretly works for the British Library Special Operations Division to locate and secure rare books that can cause great harm in the wrong hands.
Shueisha published Read or Die in Ultra Jump from December 18th, 1999, to May 18th, 2002.
8. Meiko Shiraki (Prison School)
Meiko is the domineering Vice President of the Underground Student Council. She’s about as sexy as she is ruthless, proving that not all anime glasses girls are kind. She began the series as a brutal misandrist but became a partial ally to the boys in her charge.
Her general appearance and the fanservice galore have helped her become the mascot of the series. For that, we thank Akira Hiramoto.
Kodansha published Prison School in Weekly Young Magazine from February 7th, 2011, to December 25th, 2017.
9. Rion Aida (Agent Aika)
Rion is Aika’s salvaging partner. Though Aika steals the show by herself, Rion isn’t there just because she’s a lovely glasses girl. She’s a highly competent fighter with comparable skills in infiltration and deception. Like Aika and every other girl in the series, she’s unafraid of showing some pantsu.
Studio Fantasia animated Agent Aika from April 25th, 1997, to April 25th, 1999.
10. Kiriko Aoi (Godannar / Shinkon Gattai Godan’na!!)
Kiriko is another girl who is as intelligent as she looks. She’s the chief scientist of the Dannar Base. Given her looks, she can easily make people follow her orders without question. She’s also the mother, and mother-in-law, of three of the main characters, adding MILF status to glasses girl.
Studios OLM and AIC A.S.T.A. animated Godannar between October 1st, 2003, and June 29th, 2004.
11. Shizuka Hayama (Daphne in the Brilliant Blue / Hikari to Mizu no Daphne)
Shizuka proves that anime glasses girls can be just as hardened and dangerous as their non-meganekko counterparts. She also wears revealing clothing, either the “attire” above or a form-fitting bodysuit. Shizuka is also a brilliant mechanic from Shibuya who continues to make a living after much of the earth has been flooded with water.
Studio J.C.Staff animated Daphne in the Brilliant Blue from January 15th, 2004, to July 3rd, 2004.
12. Yayoi Kuribayashi (Mouse)
Yet another girl who makes glasses look sexy. It also helps that she wears numerous revealing clothes to seduce Sorata, the famous thief she and two other girls have devoted themselves to. She’s a brilliant scientist and works undercover as a university nurse, placing her on the anime nurses list too.
Hakusensha published Mouse in the Young Animal magazine from 1999 to 2004.
Bonus: Kson (VShojo)
We couldn’t do an anime glasses girls list without Souchou. Kson is a very popular VTuber and works as part of the VShojo group alongside Zentreya, Ironmouse, Projekt Melody, and Henya the Genius. Kson will also be added as a hostess in the forthcoming Like a Dragon Gaiden the Man Who Erased His Name, and she won the grand prize to determine who will appear in Like a Dragon 8.
