Do you love silver-haired girls in anime? How about when they talk dirty to you in a foreign language? If you’re reading this on J-List, you always hear sexy chats in Japanese. But have you heard Russian? The new romantic comedy Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian stars a love interest who speaks Russian and has shiny silver hair. So, you silver-haired fans have another waifu to put on your list. However, this romantic comedy offers otakus of culture several charm points for harem rom-com fanservice. What are they? Read on to find out!
Alya is a Tsundere with a Russian Twist
As you can tell from the long title in English, the story behind Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian started on the user-generated content site Shousetsuka ni Narou (Let’s Become a Novelist, syosetu.com). Its Japanese title is even longer: 時々ボソッとロシア語でデレる隣のアーリャさん, Tokidoki Bosotto Russiago de Dereru Tonari no Alya-san, lit. Alya-san, Next to Me, Sometimes Whispers Lovestruck Feelings in Russian. Alya is a tsundere and a Russian-dere!
Sumire Uesaka (Hayase Nagatoro from Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san and Lum from Urusei Yatsura (2022)) tries her Russian accent as she blurts lovey-dovey feelings under her breath for Alya. The other twist is that her target of affection, Masachika Kuze, understands what she says! He missed his chance to admit he knew how heavy Alya flirts with him, so now he endures her bilingual tsundere antics.
Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian About Harem Competition
Kuze-kun is your de facto rom-com harem main character, meaning he will have several love interest archetypes hovering around him and bothering Alya. His childhood friend, Yuki Suou, the student council spokesperson, keeps trying to recruit him to staff the student council. He also has a sister who shares his otaku interests. Alya’s older sister, Masha, has the same ahoge Alya does, which becomes a clue for the identity of Kuze-kun’s first love.
Alya’s love interest learned to speak Russian so he could play with a blonde girl in his neighborhood. That young child had a similar hair tuft to Alya and Masha. Coincidence? Of course not! Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian has elements of a love mystery story.
But You Said Something About Russian Feet and Thighs?
Every harem anime appears to have a fetish personality these days. Sometimes it’s oppai. Other anime put its spotlight on gyaru fashion. Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian has one, too. It’s legs, thighs, and feet! The first scene in the anime showed us extremely short skirts on high school girls’ uniforms. Alya wears thigh highs to accentuate that zettai ryouiki. And we get bare feet!
Fanservice scenes are ripe for panty shots with skirts that short. I only wonder if that detailed lingerie crotch is a first-episode ploy to lock us in. I hope not!
So, if you’re a leg man and feet fetish fanatic, enjoy your time listening to Alya’s Russian whispers.
Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian streams on Crunchyroll in Japanese audio and multiple language subtitles.
