Anyone who has ever watched a Studio Ghibli film always seem to have a favorite melody from one of the scenes from the films. Studio Ghibli music seems to have a power that seems to reverberate from your ears to your hearts where it stays for years to come.
In January, NTS Radio released a one hour playlist featuring songs of Studio Ghibli films from 1982-1992, which was mixed by Sega Bodega. The featured songs were from films Castle in the Sky, Grave of the Fireflies, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Only Yesterday, and Porco Rosso.
This month, NTS Radio has released part two of the playlist featuring songs from 1994-2001, the films being Pom Poko, Whisper of the Heart, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and My Neighbors the Yamadas.
From studying to resting to working, the beautiful melodies of Ghibli songs can serve a purpose to almost anyone out there. If you haven’t given some films a try, now might by the time! Some of my absolute favorites are Porco Rosso, Whisper of the Heart, Kiki’s Delivery Service, From Up On Poppy Hill, and Princess Mononoke!
What are some films you’d recommend to first-time Ghibli watchers?
