Iyapan Returns, Episode 2 — Demon Lady’s Hopes and Knickers Take a Twisted Turn

Demon Lady Valmina greets the Hero with a romantic offer, but his shocking counteroffer stuns her.

Episode 2 — “Valmina Dia Nox (Demon Lady)”

Hmm.

Iyapan Returns always plays a game with mainstream anime scenarios. So, the fun for each episode is how the POV character puts another twist on the mainstream twist. How will he frustrate and irritate the girl on the screen? Its second episode puts a ridiculous twist on a standard hero-versus-demon-lord scenario. Here are my reactions to the twisted twist inside the second episode of Iyapan Returns.

A veteran anime fan can easily recognize the conventional shonen version of this story: the Hero confronts the Demon Lord in the Demon Kingdom for a final battle. Recent anime programs often add a meta twist to the scenario, casting the Demon Lord as the more sympathetic figure, recasting her as a kawaii, pop-culture-savvy girl or steering her relationship with the Hero toward romance.

The Iyapan Twisted Twist

Instead of fighting her or falling for her, the Hero’s objective is even more ridiculous. His single-minded purpose: To see the Demon Lady’s panties. That is the episode’s real subversion, and it is what fuels Valmina’s disgusted and frustrated reactions. The twist works because the series takes a familiar shonen setup, leans into modern meta themes combining the shonen genre with isekai, comedy, and romance, before swerving into pure, shameless absurdity.

Bring on the ecchi! Cue the disgusted frustration on the Demon Lord’s face from the scenario subversion. Enjoy a kawaii girl showing you her panties with a disgusted face!

Iyapan Returns Makes Me Say Heh.

The Hero enters the Demon Lord’s throne room. Talk, Fight, or Flee? That’s a Demon Lady with a pettanko ojousama voice! Hohoho. She’s a gamer girl! The classic RPG scenario would be dull, so how about a lovey-dovey one? She has read too many rom-com isekai light novels with hilariously long titles, like Iyapan’s official title.

Does the Hero have romantic feelings for the Demon Lady? Nope. Marriage is not in the cards for the Demon Lady, and the Hero is not teasing her. Her hopes and dreams sound like the plot of Banished from the Hero’s Party. No slow-life fantasy setting for you, Valmina!

Prepare for disappointment, Demon Lady. Hold on a second! The Hero didn’t come to fight! He came to see her panties. Yes. Her panties. The shojo Demon Lady can’t handle that! Confirmed — the Hero is a pervert. He would prefer looking at her panties instead of sharing the world with her. I mean, he could have both if he were to marry her, but the Hero has his own sense of purity.

Iyapan Isekai — Reincarnated as Opantsu?

Here comes the endgame. Show us your disgusted face, Valmina Maou-sama! The Hero’s reward comes at a price, though. Die and reincarnate to see her panties again!
