Opposites tend to attract in the most fun and unusual ways. We saw that in Aharen-san wa Hakarenai. Both that series and this one feature a cute and expressionless girl front and center. Well, Aharen-san may have found a better love interest. This new stoic waifu must deal with an overly emotional guy determined to make her show some feeling. We’ll see if they find common ground when Inexpressive Kashiwada and Expressive Ota (Kao ni Denai Kashiwada-san to Kao ni Deru Ota-kun) premieres on October 4th, 2025.
Fuyu Azuma released the original Inexpressive Kashiwada and Expressive Ota manga series between June 22nd, 2018, and June 9th, 2023. Fujimi Shobo published all ten volumes in the Dragon Comics Age imprint. Fuyu Azuma began releasing the sequel series Inexpressive Kashiwada and Expressive Ota+ on October 13th, 2023.
Inexpressive Kashiwada and Expressive Ota Cast
The odd couple and an equally odd friend are as follows:
- Kashiwada-san — Akane Fujita (Senko from Senran Kagura: Shinovi Master). An expressionless girl with a crush on the guy who bullies her.
- Ota-kun — Kyohei Natsume (Producer from The iDOLM@STER Shiny Colors). An overactive guy who tries to break Kashiwada’s cold exterior.
- Tabuchi-san — Yumiri Hanamori (Hinaki Ubuyashiki from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba). The committee chairman who tries to defend Kashiwada-san from Ota-kun’s antics.

Inexpressive Kashiwada and Expressive Ota Have Fun at School
Ota-kun has been trying his best to get Kashiwada-san to show any emotion. No matter the situation, this girl’s statue-like face never breaks. Ota-kun became determined to get her to reveal her true self the day they met, when some birds used them as toilets, and she wasn’t even phased. So it was that he continued to prank her, despite his pranks often failing or backfiring on him.
In reality, Kashiwada-san is not only affected by his antics, but she actually has a crush on him. These feelings are mutual, even if Ota-kun refuses to admit it. His attempts to make Kashiwada-san show any emotion are often blocked by the committee chairman, Tabuchi-san. Tabuchi-san is one of Kashiwada-san’s fans. Her cute, stoic expression makes Tabuchi-san happy. These three conflicting personalities happily clash every day.
