Yohei Takemura took to X to announce an upcoming Chained Soldier (Mato Seihei no Slave) hiatus. Citing unspecified health issues, the ecchi work’s illustrator apologized to fans for the future delay in the manga’s publication schedule. Chained Soldier‘s break will extend from May 31 to June 14.
Why Does a Short Chained Soldier Hiatus Matter?
You may think that hiatus announcements are mere formalities for short breaks. But these can be invaluable indications of the manga’s production schedule. Quite a few manga have gone on extended hiatuses after an initial short break. The grueling schedule that mangaka and animators face is a well-known, unfortunate fact in the otaku world.
Some manga, like Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete, have suffered long-term, indefinite hiatuses due to the author’s or illustrator’s health. So, here’s hoping that this initial hiatus doesn’t expand into something more serious and that Takemura-sensei has a speedy recovery.
What’s Mato Seihei no Slave About?
Chained Soldier takes an unusual approach to the demon/alien invasion genre.
Imagine walking to your favorite izakaya after a grueling day at the office, only for extra-dimensional beings to eat you—that’s the reality Japan faces in Chained Soldier. Conflict arises after Mato, a demon world, starts appearing unexpectedly in Japan. Yuuki Wakura finds himself caught up in that conflict. Fortunately, the Demon Defense Force, an all-female anti-demon military unit, saves him when a seemingly fatal situation arises.
Harnessing the power of otherworldly peaches, these girls gain magical powers to fight the demon scourge. Luckily for Yuuki, his savior’s power relies on using him as a fighter and rewarding him with sexual gratification.
Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ online platform has serialized Chained Soldier since 2019. Takahiro of Akame ga Kill! fame writes the manga, and Yohei Takemura illustrates it. Chained Soldier boasts eighteen volumes and a Seven Arcs anime adaptation. HIDIVE streams Chained Soldier. Seven Arcs has greenlit a second season of the anime. It will premiere sometime in 2026.
