Light Novels to Anime Adaptations
- Kadokawa brought the big guns to their anime adaptation announcement of Magic Maker ~ Isekai Mahō no Tsukurikata ~ (How to Perform Alternate World Magic). The light novel series’ anime will air in 2025 and the staff and cast were revealed in the first promotional video, posted with the announcement. (Anime News Network)
- Shirobuta Kizoku desu ga Zense no Kioku ga Haeta node Hiyoko na Otouto Sodatemasu (English Title: I’m the White Pig Nobleman, but With the Memories of My Previous Life, I’ll Raise My Little Brother) will get an anime adaptation. No further details were announced. (Otakomu)
Manga to Anime Adaptations
- The first manga-to-anime announcement we have is an exciting one! Science Saru will adapt SANDA into an anime. The manga series, penned by Beastar’s creator Paru Itagaki, began running in Weekly Shonen Champion in July 2021 and ended in the same magazine this year. The 15th volume will hit bookshelves in Japan this coming August. (Anime News Network)
- Announced alongside the news that the manga series would resume serialization after a four-year hiatus, the official Twitter/X account for Wataridori to Katatsumuri (Migratory Birds & Snail) has revealed plans to turn this series into an anime. (Anime News Network)
- Dipping into the realm of the kawaii, a new anime for the manga Puniru wa Kawaī Suraimu (Translation: Puniru Is a Cute Slime) will begin airing in October 2024. Yū Sasahara will play Puniru and Shūichirō Umeda is cast as Kotaro. Toho Animation will produce the animation. (Comic Natalie)
- I’ll be honest, I’m a bit confused by this announcement, but I think this means that the high school zombie series Sailor Zombie starring three (now retired) members of the pop idol group AKB48 is getting an anime adaptation. (Anime News Network)
- Incest comedy fans’ ears will perk up at this news. Studio Doga Koba will produce an anime adaptation of the series Shiunji-ke no Kodomo-tachi (English Title: The Shiunji Family Children) created by the author of Rent-A-Girlfriend. (Comic Natalie)
- According to the Manga Reporter Twitter/X account, the manga series Kowloon Generic Romance will receive a 13-episode anime adaptation in April 2025. (Twitter/X)
Manga to Live-Action
- According to the cover of the 16th volume, the shoujo manga It Takes More than a Pretty Face to Fall in Love (Kao Dake ja Suki ni Narimasen) is getting a live-action movie adaptation. The series is described by Comikey as:
Sana Chiken loves good-looking guys more than anything. After enrolling at Minowa General Highschool in hopes of meeting her ideal man, she finds Udo Kanato, a man blessed with looks from the gods themselves. However, she quickly finds herself in a predicament! Due to skipping too many classes, Udo is set to be expelled! Unless she can help leverage his good looks and get the school’s social media account to 100,000 followers, Sana’s dreamboat will disappear from her life forever. The story follows the pair and their changing relationship as they try to prevent Udo’s expulsion. (Anime News Network)
- Another manga set to receive a live-action movie is Uchi no Otōto-domo ga Sumimasen. The movie will star Megumi Hata and will be released to theaters in December 2024. (Anime Eiga)
Mobile Games to Live-Action
- A report was published announcing that the mobile game Blue Archive will also get adapted into a live-action project once the anime is complete. (Yaraon)
Original Anime Projects
- A special omnibus movie created entirely with AI will screen in theaters in Japan later this year. Novelist Otsuichi, cinematographer Takeshi Sone, and Hiroki Yamaguchi directed the three short stories within the movie. (Anime News Network)
Sequels
- Black Butler will return in 2025 with the Green Witch Arc. The staff released a promotional video to celebrate the announcement. (Spice)
- Fire Force Season 3 will return in April 2025 and then again in January 2026. (Comic Natalie)
- The anime series Minami-ke is returning for another season. If you had this on your bingo card, I’m going to have to ask for some verification for you to collect your prize. (Esuteru)
- Rent-A-Girlfriend will return for a fourth season in 2025 and reportedly will start with the Hawaiians Arc. (Comic Natalie)
Stage Plays
- Anime director Kunihiko Ikuhara will direct a play from October 31st to November 3rd at Rikkoukai Hall. The play is a rodoku-geki (reading theater) play titled Ikuni Produce Reading in the Dark Shunkin no Sasuke. (Anime News Network)
- Popular isekai Ascendance of a Bookworm will get its first stage musical adaptation later this year in Japan. (Anime News Network)
Video Games
- Bringing up Rent-A-Girlfriend again to announce that the franchise is also getting a video game. It’s true, there’s even a promotional video for it. (Ryokutya)
