In a follow up to an article we published on the J-List Blog back in late January 2022, we now have a ton of new information about the upcoming romantic comedy My Stepmom’s Daughter Is My Ex (Japanese title: Mamahaha no Tsurego ga Moto Kano Datta) including a firm release window, additional cast members, and a brand new promotional video which previews the theme song and main character voices!
As you heard in the promotional video embedded above, the opening theme song will be performed by DIALOGUE+ and is titled “Deneb and Spica.”
Joining the already announced cast of Hiro Shimono as Mizuto Irido and Rina Hidaka, as his ex-girlfriend turned step-sister, Yume Irido, will be the following (character names first):
Akatsuki Minami: Ikumi Hasegawa
Kogure Kawanami: Nobuhiko Okamoto
Isana Higashira: Miyu Tomita
The series will premiere at some point in July 2022.
Originally a light novel series created by Kyōsuke Kamishiro and illustrated by Takayaki. It began a physical run in Japan under Kadokawa’s Sneaker Bunko imprint in December 2018 and is up to eight volumes in Japan as of February 2022. The series is being released in English by J-Novel Club who are currently working on the third volume.
Studio Project No.9 will produce the anime adaptation with Shinsuke Yanagi sitting in the director’s chair. He’ll be working off scripts written by Deko Akao and character designs adapted for anime by Katsuyuki Sato.
In this story, the two main characters are a middle school couple who break up before entering high school. At first, Mizuto is excited about getting a brand new start in a new school but things take an interesting turn when he finds out that not only is his ex, Yume, attending the same school as him but she’s also going to be moving in with him as his new step-sister!
