Aizawa’s light novel series was being published online on Shosetsuka ni Naro website since May 2018, and later physical copies with artwork drawn by Tozai were published by Kadokawa from November 2018. There are currently four volumes published so far, and the fifth is to be released this Friday. The light novel series is being published in English by Yen Press, and the second English volume was released in November 2020.
The light novel series has also received a manga adaptation of The Eminence of Shadow, which is being drawn by Anri Sakano and was launched in Kadokawa’s Comp Ace in December 2018. The fifth volume will be released Friday, and Yen Press will be releasing the first English volume in July. A spin-off was also made by Seta U, called The Eminence in Shadow – Shadow Side Story, and has been published in Comp Ace since July 2019. The second volume will ship on Friday, too.
Yen Press describes The Eminence in Shadow as:
Shadow brokers are those who go unnoticed, posing as unremarkable people, when in truth, they control everything from behind the scenes. Sid wants to be someone just like that more than anything, and something as insignificant as boring reality isn’t going to get in his way! He trains in secret every single night, preparing for his eventual rise to power — only to be denied his destiny by a run-of-the-mill (yet deadly) traffic accident. But when he wakes up in a another world and suddenly finds himself at the head of an actual secret organization doing battle with evil in the shadows, he’ll finally get a chance to act out all of his delusional fantasies!
