Monster Girl Doctor tackled the practical consequences of love from an adult perspective in this episode. Yes, there were lots of bondage jokes and bukkake jokes because spider webbing was a character feature, but Arahnia’s full introduction sparked many admissions of true feelings. Putting aside Arahnia’s twisted “adult” notion of NTR to get closer to her girlfriend Sapphee, her presence showed how Tisalia has genuine feelings for Dr. Glenn and how she needs to balance his partnership with her family business obligations. That’s a grownup problem and Tisalia was mature enough to admit that Glenn makes a good courtship partner regarding social status, but her heart wants what it wants. And her heart wants Glenn.
That mix of emotion and reason is what concerns Sapphee the most. Arahnia’s idea of toying with a male partner, which plays nicely on the black widow imagery of a female spider monster brings with her, doesn’t bother Sapphee at all, because Arahnia would base her connection to Glenn merely on the physical. That’s where the reference to Monster Girl Doctor’s episode title comes from. Arahnia admits her emotional connection would remain with Sapphee and engaging with Glenn would be her convoluted way of loving her friend Sapphee. There’s a psychological theme here of a spider weaving a web to trap many things and claiming ownership of what she catches and relating that to a spider monster’s idea of relationships. Everything on the web is on the same plane and they’re all connected to each other through the spider at the center of the web. Sapphee understands her best friend’s self-centeredness, which is why she cares more about Tisalia forming a multidimensional love with Glenn.
Sapphee has it rough. The poor monster girl can’t even cry about it because snakes don’t have tear ducts. The way she declared that Glenn doesn’t have time to court and date because he needs to build his clinic hints at something deeper about why Dr. Cthulhy forbade her from dating Glenn. The sense of unfairness grates on Sapphee, plainly, that all these other monster girls can flirt with Glenn and she can’t. I hope Monster Girl Doctor explains what is going on with the Litbeit Clinic and why Dr. Cthulhy pays close attention to it.

Sapphee went to the famous harpy hot springs with Lorna and Kay and the episode gave us only one scene? And we didn’t even see the centaur girls up close? The epilogue scenes after the monster girls deal with giantess next episode better have everyone jump in before going back to Lindworm, or I am going to be extra sore.

Arahnia is here for phoenix feathers. She never even thought of visiting the harpy village and asking for a meeting. Spider monster girls think differently, apparently. Arahnia appears to be a simple monster girl, chasing after a butterfly, but she lays traps, so don’t trust the superficial. Glenn must have a strong ribcage to handle Sapphee’s coils and Arahnia’s webbing. Time for spider lady “fun.” Ah. Arahnia has boundary issues. She wants whatever her friends want. She wants to “share” Glenn, so she stays “even” with Sapphee. This neurosis is difficult to treat with psychotherapy. Glenn pronounces Arahnia’s emotional trap for Sapphee is insane. He’s correct.
Too bad. Tisalia rescues Glenn from impropriety. Monster girl harem high jinks! Tisalia had to borrow a sword because her weapon of choice is a lance. Ara! Declarations of love all over the place. Uh oh. Don’t question the heart of a maiden, Arahnia. Welp, the ultimate maiden put a stop to this nonsense. Arahnia and Tisalia know Sapphee ranks first place in Glenn’s harem. Sapphee’s desperate cry that Glenn has no time for love or courtship sounds serious like it’s related to why she and Glenn can’t have a relationship.
Drinking Sapphee is best Sapphee. Love confessions all over the place. Sapphee worries more about Tisalia’s intentions because she seriously has feelings for Glenn. Monster girl love is complicated. Glenn needs liquid courage for his own love declaration. Sapphee and Glenn OTP (one true pair)!
