Eve: Rebirth Terror Visual Novel Ported to Nintendo Switch

After being released on PS Vita and PS4 last year, the long-awaited sequel to developer C’s Ware’s EVE Burst Error has released on Nintendo Switch in Japan. While the title may look familiar, the game has no relation to Square’s Parasite Eve series. This EVE is strictly a detective adventure visual novel that allows the player to switch between two protagonists; down-on his luck detective Kojiro Amagi and international agent Marina Hojo, allowing for two separate gameplay experiences.

While the feature of switching protagonists is relatively commonplace in games these days, EVE Burst Error came out in 1995. While the game was eventually ported to Sega Saturn and multiple sequels were produced, Eve: Rebirth Terror directly follows the plot of the original 1995 game, occurring only a year after the first game. Thankfully, the game has been updated for the system in terms of graphics and gameplay. While there’s no new trailer for the Switch version of the title, the trailer released for the PS4 and Vita versions gives an idea of what to expect, both for this game and detective stories in general, including beautiful women, intense action, and an insidious villain.

It looks like our heroes’ attempts at working separate cases fail once again as their newest cases end up intertwining once more. Hopefully, things go much more smoothly for our heroes the second time around.

While the series might not be ported to the West anytime soon, Eve: Rebirth Terror is currently available on Japan’s Nintendo Switch Eshop as of February 27th. Given the Switch’s long-running popularity and mobility, it’d be nice to see more visual novels of all kinds find a home on Nintendo’s newest system. Unfortunately, the game doesn’t manage to be any more affordable on Switch, as it’s still being sold for 6,380 yen or around 60 US dollars.
