It’s time to say goodbye to another season of anime, as the current cour winds down and a new batch of shows gets ready to descend on us. This has been an entertaining season, from the excitement of Gate: Thus the JSDF Fought There! season 2 to the stereotype-challenging Please tell me! GALKO-chan to the always-fun backstory of KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World. It wasn’t all Shakespeare — we’re looking at you, Musaigen no Phantom World — but most of it was all fun to watch. J-List is eternally grateful to Dagashi Kashi for raising awareness of dagashi, the old-timey Japanese candy and snack items that we’ve been selling or years, and which we’ve got a big restocking of today. One show that was especially good this season was ERASED: Boku Dake ga Inai Machi, a sort of cross between AnoHana and Steins;Gate, about a young man with a power that lets him “timeslip” into the past to stop a series or murders. It’s interesting to consider how our approach to a given work might differ from that of Japanese people, who have a different cultural reference point than us. When we watch BokuMachi, we see a well-written and dramatic story, but Japanese might approach it differently, depending on their relationship with Akutagawa Ryunosuke’s story “The Spider’s Thread” (a big theme in the anime), which is as well-known to Japanese as To Kill a Mockingbird is to us.
For 20 years this October, J-List has been involved with licensing and translating great ecchi visual novels and RPGs from Japan, and today we’ve got some good news: a permanent price drop on two dozen or so games, with some of our best titles available for just $14.99. Browse them all now!
