The year is winding down, and soon it’ll be time to say goodbye to 2022. It was a challenging year for a lot of reasons, including Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, high inflation and fuel bills, and continued disruptions from COVID…but at least we had a lot of quality anime to watch, and many fun anime waifus to obsess over. In this post let’s explore who the best anime waifu of the past year was, based on feedback from J-List customers!
Can you believe how fast this year went by? Back in January I made a trip to Hokkaido to experience Sapporo in the winter and the joys of Japanese whisky. This was back “before the war,” and it feels like at least three years ago. It’s also amazing to think that anime we all watched long ago, like World’s End Harem, was actually from this year even though they feel like they were years in the past.
Who Were the Top 12 Anime Waifus of 2022?
Let’s explore the anime girls that made fans experience the joy of moe in their hearts all year long, and decide who the best anime waifu was!
Akebi from Akebi’s Sailor Uniform. A cute-af anime about a girl who attends her mother’s high school, only to learn that she’s the only one with the old-style sailor uniform. Anime studio Cloverworks went out of its way to animate the feet and thighs of all the girls in great detail, and fans noticed.
Tsundere Elf from Isekai Ojisan. A totally fresh and fun anime about a middle-aged man who goes into a coma… but he was visiting another world inside his head during that time. Because he entered his coma before the term tsundere became popularized, he didn’t know that the elf princess he saved was in love with him.
Chisato and Takina from Lycoris Recoil. For many, the yuri ship of the year was these two, and doujin artists made sure we got to see them doing the deed together.
Mercury Suletta from Gundam: The Witch of Mercury. Another popular yuri anime is the new Mobile Suit Gundam, which has an original story created by the writer of Code Geass and Planetes.
Faputa from Made in Abyss. A strange creature Reg, Riko and Nanachi encounter. Faputa is incredibly strong, and her butt is fragrant, too, sosu!
What’s so good about Made in Abyss, anyway? Read my blog post to find out!
Roxanne from Isekai Meikyuu de Harem wo. A fan service-heavy isekai about a guy who acquires a harem of slave girls in a fantasy world, Roxanne has the most amazingly animated sex scenes in the history of anime.
Rebecca from Cyberpunk Edgerunners. The darling of fans of the hit anime based on the Cyberpunk 2077 world created by Mike Pondsmith, she’s great if you love violent lolis with guns.
How the hell was this anime so good? Read my blog post about it here!
Kobeni from Chainsaw Man. She wouldn’t be my pick for the best anime waifu, but some J-List customers like having a character they can connect with.
Lum from Urusei Yatsura 2022. One of the first anime waifus for many fans is back, with a high-budget remake of the classic show from 41 years ago. Are you watching?
Can you believe they remade the classic Urusei Yatsura anime? Read my post here.
Yor Forger from Spy x Family. There are so many reasons to love Yor. She’s strong and competent, able to steal your heart or cut it out of your chest. Plus she’s voiced by Saori Hayami, which is an automatic win in my book.
Marin Kitagawa from My Dress Up Darling. Finally, the girl who made us all fall in love at the beginning of the year and want to learn how to sew cosplay outfits. We’ve got lots of products from the show, from figures to Blu-rays to sexy doujins, all year long!
Honorable mention: Sachi Umino from A Couple of Cuckoos. While she wasn’t on anyone’s list of the best anime waifu of 2022, I loved her because she’s basically Megumi, J-List’s official character. Grab the unofficial Megumi figure here if you want to own one!
