As the year winds down, it’s a great time to look back at the past year and consider what kind of year it was for anime fans…and anime waifus. We all had a lot of fun together online, thrilling at the adventures of Rudeus Greyrat or cheering for characters like Douki-chan or Komi-san as they try to find love. We also obsessed over anime girls, debating who the best waifu of each season was. I asked J-List’s awesome customers to share their top anime girls of 2021, and here’s what we came up with!
J-List Customers Share the Best Anime Waifus of 2021
Alice from The Duke of Death and his Maid. While I am decidedly not a fan of the “cel-look CGI” system for shows where it’s not needed, I have to grudgingly admit the story of a boy with a death curse and his loyal and sexy maid Alice was adorable. Though watching sexy anime fanservice rendered with CGI gave me a bit of a confused boner.
Rebecca Bluegarden from Edens Zero. If you didn’t have much awareness of this show, by Fairy Tale creator Hiro Mashima, blame the “Netflix jail” system, in which a series is delayed by 15 weeks to allow the company to create dubbed tracks for the worldwide market. If you haven’t watched the show, you should give it a try, as Rebecca is a quality anime waifu!
Liscia Elfrieden from How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom. A pleasant anime about a down-to-earth man who gets summoned to a fantasy kingdom where his knowledge helps him modernize the country. Liscia is the first girl in the harem he ends up with.
Siesta from The Detective is Already Dead. This was a fascinating anime, which told you upfront that the main character was going to die part-way through the story. Siesta was a lot of fun in the episodes she was in.
Atena Saotome from Megami-ryou no Ryoubo-san. This was a thoroughly enjoyable fanservice show about a homeless boy who gets a job managing the dorm filled with cute anime waifus. Naturally he finds himself in sexy situations pretty much every episode.
Komi-san from Komi Can’t Communicate. One of the best-executed anime series of the year, this show was celebrated by anime and manga fans all around the world.

Ilulu from Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid. A ridiculously busty dragon girl who does unexpected things like using her magic to give Kobayashi a penis, Ilulu caused quite a lot of drama from Twitter, which was couldn’t believe that a fictional character from a fantasy anime could be short and busty. China forced Ilulu’s boobs to be censored for domestic broadcast, creating many memes by international fans.
Shino Aki from Remake our Life! An enjoyable show about a man who returns to his past so he can live the life he wants as an anime and game creator. The character Shino Aki was definitely a fan favorite.
Sayu Ogiwara from HigeHiro. One show we all loved to watch unfold was I Shaved. Then I Brought a High School Girl Home, about a man who finds a high school girl who offers sex if he’ll put her up for the night… but instead, he does his best to lead the girl to a better place. Besides Sayu, this show had a lot of great anime waifus. Which was your favorite?
Douki-chan from Ganbare Douki-chan. There’s something about watching a character who’s trying to win another person’s heart that’s really special, and we all enjoyed watching Douki-chan do battle with several women in the office who get between her and her crush. It was especially fun to see how the pages in Yom’s doujinshi translated into anime form.
Nagatoro-san from Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro. All fans seem to love dark or tanned anime girls like Nagatoro-san, and we all had fun watching whenever Nagatoro’s teasing backfired on her, letting Senpai get a “lucky sukebe.”
Eris Boreas Greyrat from Mushoku Tensei. Finally, the best anime of 2021 had the best anime waifu, as far as I’m concerned. While she started out as a spoiled generic red-haired tsundere, Eris become an integral part of the story and watching her grow from a girl to a young woman over 23 episodes, actually changing her appearance as she aged.
