One reason it was fun to be an anime fan in the early 80s was discovering so many things that were fresh and new. While some anime had started being broadcast on TV, the real thrill came when tracking down the original Japanese works, which have awesome stuff that was cut out of broadcast anime, including shower scenes! This post is NSFW unless you work at J-List.
The first anime shower scene old school fans like me got to see was probably the “zero-G shower” from the Macross 1984 movie. We all giggled like idiots while we grabbed for the rewind button so we could watch it over and over again.
Anime shower scenes do a lot to move the story along. They might allow a character to reflect on something they’re going through, giving us important insight into their personality.
A well-crafted anime shower scene can also provide comic relief, like this classic scene from Code Geass.
There’s also a lot of comedy to be had watching girls with “A-cup angst” as they interact with more well-endowed characters. Do girls do this in real life?
There’s a word I like a lot called “skinship,” which means the positive feelings you get from healthy physical contact. Sometimes showers can bring people closer together!
Hifumi-senpai needs you to wash her back for her. What do you do?

They can help us enjoy our hopes and dreams, since we could all use a Hifumi-senpai in our lives.
Anime shower scenes can provide motivation to start getting serious about hitting the gym. At least they can get your heart rate up a bit.
Another legendary anime shower scene we can’t forget it when Hanekawa and Senjogahara showered together. pic.twitter.com/mRqQ2rCLa3

The anime that gave us the best sibling toothbrush scene ever also gave us the best yuri shower scene in history. And we thank them for it.
Anime shower scenes are one of the few places “steam censorship” makes actual sense.
Another famous shower scene was the legendary Chun Li scene from the Street Fighter II movie, with character designs by the awesome Satoshi Urushihara. pic.twitter.com/rjrktyv9z7

Can a shower scene be considered “art”? After watching the classic Chun Li scene from the Street Fighter II movie, I’d say it can.
If Hayao Miyazaki ever put a shower scene in an anime, I think it would look something like this classic scene from the show anime film Robot on the Road.
What anime showed you your first anime boobs? Mine is this scene from the Macross 1984 movie.
I’m so glad we got a proper Blu-ray release that fixed the too-dark coloring and censorship of the first release. We’ve got the improved Blu-ray on the site: https://t.co/n4FIcP9fro pic.twitter.com/7E1XerNTsj

Bonus shower scene! This was my very first anime shower scene, and my first pair of anime boobs.
